Been hunting my entire life(since 6yrs old) and have had the opportunity to hunt many places in Texas. Small and large tracts, low and high fenced, rifle or bow, yet I’ve never been able to close the deal on some of the biggest deer I’ve seen/hunted. This season I was blessed with the biggest buck I’ve ever shot, a huge 8 point that was gifted by my good friend David Mack on his ranch in D’hanis Texas. David had seen this deer on camera but the winds were never right to go in and bow hunt the buck while I was at the ranch. Game plan was to shut off the feeder where his does were hanging and that worked perfectly. The buck followed his does down into an oat field behind the house just before dark for several days in a row. Fortunately for me, he showed up a little earlier and presented a broadside shot around 250yards. David’s .243 dumped the buck in his tracks. I knew he was big but has no idea he would be the biggest buck yet. As I got closer to him both his rack and body grew bigger. Pics kinda speak for themselves but this deer has G2s and beams that were awesome and helped him tape out to 161 7/8”. Not sure I’ll ever have another shot at something bigger but I am eternally grateful for the opportunity of a lifetime to have taken this deer.
