    Is it Age or Genetics?

Very recently, actually in just the past 10 days or so, I have had this buck show up on the game cam. I also had the opportunity to view him live this past weekend. I didn’t draw on him, though I had plenty of time to do so as he hung around my setup for more than an hour! He’s very noticeable, not only by his antlers, but by his coloration. I wonder, because I do not know, is he grey with age or could he be genetically predisposed to having a lighter coat?

I've seen lots and lots of really old deer without any of them going blond. But regardless, that's really cool and I would've killed him in a heart beat, then tanned the hide. Antlers aren't anything to sneeze at either.

              Thanks for sharing, that's cool

hes prob genetically got a lighter colored coat-- and his age may make him even more light colored-- he looks really old. ive seen deer that have different markings that i think are genetic. a few bucks on our place you will see that have almost completely black foreheads-the deer in my avatar was one of them., others ive seen that look like theyre wearing white socks- (about 5-6" of white above there hoofs) i think all of these differences are genetic.

He is looking pretty old! If he gets out in front of me, or my son, the next time we are out, we will know for sure! He is our newest target! Now, I’m curious what he might score. Not that it makes a difference, just curious.

Nice mature buck. The coloration thing is probably how he's always been.

                    Good luck getting him

As it turns out, I believe it’s genetic! I’ll be going after Ol’ Grey tomorrow morning!
