        I keep my tallow In The fridge or freezer in quart jars. This can make it rather hard.

        As such I set it in a water bath to slowly bring it to a workable temperature so I can pour or scoop it into my cast iron.

        I’m sure microwaving would work…. I just prefer not to nuke anything when it’s an option

                On another note, what is the typical price for tallow? I bought some from the local butcher this week to mix with my axis, elk and venison grind. Just curious.

                    It differs greatly, sometimes at the same store. We've paid peanuts (almost gave it away) and other times it's been high as a kite. I think it depends on who's manning the meat counter (HEB & Kroger).

                      I’m fortunate to have never had to buy it…

                      We render ours from the fat we get when we slaughter a calf and the customer doesn’t want it. Totally ~15 lbs of kidney fat for a whole calf.
