Kids didnt have any luck on fish bites so far. Going to try again this evening. I'd seen the pictures but all the drift and debris on the beach is crazy. Hopefully some luck on trout in the morning if the surf lays down.

After seeing what you do in a 14 ft skiff the fish don't stand a chance with this rig! It looks great!

Flex, it looked just like that a few weeks ago when I was there. I got out past the breakers to the 3rd bar and caught trout left and right on live shrimp under a popping cork. Was one keeper per 4 dinks but I scratched it out. Got the crap beat out of me too but hell I caught some fish, hard to argue. Good luck tomorrow brother.

Thanks! That's the plan. Can't go in the am. But tomorrow afternoon- night and rest of the week it is on.

Got a run from a shark on a whole small Whiting but it chomped it and no hook. Back at it tomorrow.

No luck yet. I've thrown spoons, gulp, DSL. One gaff on a gulp. Friend caught one gaff on a mullet.

Getting rained on now. Going to wait it out. Hopefully the real fish start biting.

Moonrise coming up in a few hours, be sure you're fishing just before it.

Can you elaborate on that? I'm not familiar with fishing the moonrise. Inshore I always just watched tide and pressure.

I don't post fish pics here much, but I fish the surf often and I always catch fish around the moonrise, whether it's trout or soaking shark baits. Supposed to be good fishing around moonset as well but that's not something I've proven through personal experience. I do live by the moonrise rule though.

When the moon is on either horizon, directly overhead or directly under foot the fish will eat. Maybe a little, maybe a lot.

Are you familiar with majors and minors? That is basically what this is referring to. There are times every day when fish feed based on the location of the moon.

Gotcha. Thanks.

We're still at it. Caught some weird fish in my cast net in the surf. And a sheepshead. Nothing else so far.

Have a big cut croaker out on my shark rod and a mullet on my medium pole. About to wade back to third and try and cast for trout again.

Mystery fish is a Spadefish. Also, try fishing the nearer cuts. First and second cut can hold a lot of fish. I always find it funny that when we are fishing the surf from a boat, we’re trying to get close to shore, but when people are fishing from the beach, they’re trying to get as far out as possible. Don’t ignore the closer cuts. Look for bait and fish in the middle of it.

Should be some kind of a bite pop up here in the next hour or so. Tide should turn around 7:30ish. Put a 1/4 jig head on a DSL and fish it like a plastic worm, almost dragging it. Just kick it up a little off the bottom.

Not much bait in the surf. The rocks right off the first sandbar are where the spade fish came from. I'm sure theres fish there. But with no live bait not sure how to fish that. About to wade back out and start jigging DSL again.

Oh man, why are you messing around with slimey fish when you got the real food in a bucket ready to go!
edit: Might want to get them out of the water so they don't suffocate, leave them dry and shaded. Not sure if that's how they're being kept or just for the pic but throwing it out there.

Haha. Yeah kids love it. Been a crazy couple years. Used to take them back home to LA and fill a few ice chests real quick running crab lines a few times every summer. Haven't gotten to do it in a while though.

Those crabs would get me excited too IF after they wuz cooked, I had somebody there pickin' em out for me!! Once in a while I'll get the fresh lump crabmeat from the seafood counter at the big HEB near my house and just eat that sucker with a little Tobasco and other various toppings... absolutely love the stuff, but never got the hang of pickin' em out!

Yall should have seen all the crabs in the Chandeleur surf the other day! Monster crabs everywhere you looked! Most looked like females and some with eggs but I bet you could still fill a 55 gallon drum with them.

I'm heading south in the morning and imagine I'll go catch a few. Pain to pick but man are they good!

That is because you really don't 'pick them out'. You either cut or break them apart. If you are literally picking meat out of the shell it'll take forever. The folks who do it commercially use a paring knife.

The size of the crabs makes a big difference too. Once you get the hang of it you can knock out a couple doz crabs in no time.

I bought one at the tackle shop next to my plant. Crabmaster. As long as you chill the crabs really well, it does a fantastic job.

Getting ready to fire up the crabs now! I casted DSL and Spoons until I got tired. Nothing but another dang gafftop.

Did have a sea turtle pop up in front of me and look at me. That was pretty dang cool.

Planning to hit sea isle lights tonight!
