    Black Bears and forest fires

Will many black bears survive the massive forest fires in New Mexico? Where will they go to get away from the fire?

When I lived in Northern California, we had major forest fires every year and never noticed any decrease in the population of bears or other wildlife. In fact as hunters, we liked the fires because it would open up the area so you could actually see more than 20 yards and all the new growth attracted all kinds of animals that you could now actually see. Two of our favorite areas to hunt were clear cuts and burn areas the year after they burned.

I've seen some pictures from the Hermit Peak/Calf Canyon fire. There is nothing left but a few burned standing trees and bare ground.

What a picture of that fire, amazing and sad at the same time.
