    Identify these perch please

From pops Lavaca county pond. He had it stocked a number of years ago with bass, hybrid perch and shiners. Wondering if these are native perch that arrived with upstream pond leaks during high rains or maybe our hybrids.

3 of the 4 we caught , along with 1 ditch pickle

    I’d guess bluegill
Information about the Bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus), a species found in the State of Texas

I would say they are a hybrid of sunfish of some kind. I really don’t believe they are green sunfish ( warmouth) but possibly a cross. Mouths are to small, and they don’t have the red eyes. Maybe green sunfish and pumpkin seed cross, would be my guess.

I'd go with this. Definitely not bluegill. They've overrun my pond, so I toss em all on the bank for the cat.

Best catfish bait for when setting lines. Slick or slick crossed with something.

                  1. Green sunfish 2. Bluegill 3. Redear aka shell cracker.

Best guess on the first one although I’ve never seen one that big. Certain on the last two.

^^^ correct. None of those are perch. They are sunfish

The 1st one is not a good one for a pond. Throw them all out.

The others are a bluegill cross

They get pretty dang big and will take over a pond.
