    First traditional harvest

It's been a few years since I've shot something worth posting about.

This marks 20 years since I started bowhunting but I've never gotten too much into traditional.

It's kind of embarrassing to admit but the inspiration came from watching the female contestants on the Alone how and I just got this idea in my head that I wanted to shoot something with a trad bow. Soon thereafter, a TBHer posted a 40 lb Sarrells bow in the classifieds and off I went. I learned everything I could from Youtube videos. Jason at Hoffy's Archery made the arrows and gave me a couple pointers on tuning and after that I just made it a point to practice every day.

Last night I was so excited I couldn't go to sleep and I woke up an hour early Does without fawns and management bucks were on the menu. There's an ancient 7 point that I've been eyeballing for months and he stepped out broadside at 10 yards but as soon as I raised my bow up to shoot him a bigger buck ran him off and he walked 300 yards down the road to the next stand.

This buck started bossing around some younger deer and I decided he needed to go.

I don't even remember releasing, just focusing on his chest and the arrow sailed in to his heart. I could see blood spraying out immediately and I knew he was done. I even got a complete pass through

He ended up being 5 years old and weighed 194 lbs.

Congrats on the trad kill. I've only managed some rabbits and other small game with mine.
