^^^ good advice.

Made it in to check and reset our traps. Thankfully we did not have to chain up and did not get stuck.
Wind picked up and drifting started by the time we got out.
Hoping no new snow before Friday.

Had a 1st for us, had to release a mule deer fawn from a coil spring. It was healthy, no broken leg.
Husband did the coat tackle while I released the trap. Took about 30 seconds in all. It did stout off, gingerly, so we hope it is ok.

Coyote tracks all over so movement after the snow.
We had about 6-8 inches drifted over most sets and 3 sprung traps under the snow.
Found a couple were set in the right spots, blown open.
Creek we're trapping and a cubby set on the right side under the tree.

That's something I don't want to deal with on a regular basis. Snow!
I'm glad that fawn wasn't hurt.

Honestly snow trapping sux.
Really hoping the little deer is up and feeding when we get back up in the morning. It seemed ok but you never know about the stress it lived.

Wrapping up this property. Pulled all my traps this afternoon. Took 4hrs but I got it done. I think I’m going to take a couple of weeks break before starting the other properties. One of them I’m really looking forward to. Lots of cat track so we’ll see what happens.

I’m glad this wasn’t filmed or I’d be all over the internet. Caught a nice little boar about 65 lbs in a no bs extreme. I got my heritage .22 pistol out and started walking towards him. He lunged at me and pulled out lol ! Here he came! I cocked the .22 and was going to shoot him at 0 distance and I heard the biggest click in the world! The safety was on. So I beat him on the head 2 or 3 times with my pistol and he finally turned and left. Never a dull moment.

Got our butts whipped this weekend.
Wind and snow don't mix well.
Nothing moved during the high winds and we found a coyote kill, they were well fed a couple of days I guess.
No bobcat tracks at all, but the snow was hard crust by Sunday morning.

Hoping for some movement this next couple of days until snow on Wednesday.
Husband has extra long weekend for Martin Luther King holiday so we'll hit 'em hard for 4 days then too.
We're trying until end of Feb. at least.

That’s tough trapping Wytex. We have the exact opposite here, this mild weather has the coyotes making a easy living.

Nice work guys!!

Hoping for some milder weather next week or so, snow Wednesday but after that much milder for a bit anyway.

Plowed out the drive in so we didn't have to go cross country through the winter gate every time out.
Couple of new sets off the highway property. Cow bone and double set traps and a cubby the spouse made for a bobcat.

Not much left of the deer and we don't know if the neighbor has pets so no traps set as of yet near the remains. It was outside the gate along the buck and rail fence.

Haven't had a fresh track since the last catch.
Gonna pull everything but 2 sets in the morning.
I drive by those 2 sets 2x/day.

I had a trap that apparently just barely caught whatever tripped it. It was a dirt hole set. Is this common if the pan tension isnít hard enough? Trap was at the end of the cable about 3 foot from set. Set was not dug out, just a perfect depression where the trap had been.

Sounds like a deer pullout or possibly pig.
Deer will jerk out of trap and leave it just like you described.

Some kind of gland lure and a squirt of good urine

At least that is what I am using

Got to trap a pine plantation a few weeks back and pulled up everything today. I'm going to quit driving the super stakes so deep with all the roots in those forests. Like to broke my back and shovel getting them out. Or get some with fins.

You can use a hand drill auger to get your stakes out. And make dirt holes.

Make sure you move over just a bit from the anchor or it will be all wrapped up around the auger bit

Just a little side note about augers

If the wife likes to garden and is planting bulbs you can break out the auger and earn some brownie points
Of course when I decided to help mine out she went and bought 2 more bags of the things

Got me an expanded pan MB550 in the mail today. Gonna try my luck at a bobcat set.
May be a while before one comes by I guess, see them on game camera every so often. Never have found any tracks or scat that I know of

Couldn't get a pic but while pulling traps, saw my 2nd woodcock in a week, deep in the pine woods. Used to see them while hunting in Alabama but never in Texas. Grimes county.

No catches as of late for us but finally some sign. Bobcat tracks again along the creek and had one do everything but step on the pan in this cubby set. For some reason husband didn't have a step stick but does now.
Found 2 more sets of tracks along the other creek and put out a couple of snares and another double set for the cats.

Had an interesting drive home, highway was pretty snow and ice covered but driving was not bad.
Supposed to get almost a foot of snow tonight at the ranch, we are going up this evening to be there for checking early in the morning and driving back tomorrow.

BT we have some expanded pans on our MB 550s, had one on the trap that the bobcat missed. Spouse had a friend weld them on and we like them.
We also have the orange bit shown above and it works well for us in rocky ground, a side handle on the drill would be very helpful though.

Train came through again just a few minutes ago. I heard 2 distinct groups of coyotes yapping. The usual one on the neighbor's place and another at least a mile away, farther along the train track.

Funny thing is some city slicker would buy the dang thing if you marketed as chupacabra

I would have looped a rope around a foot and drug it off and left the rope with it
