Cell cam sent last picture at 0942 this morning and I thought for sure the coyote had escaped but I was on the way home and it sent another pic so I went out and took care of that one.
Female caught in same set as male. Not sure if they were paired up but glad to have another one off the place

Wow I have never seen 8 coyotes in one group in my lifetime. Was she in heat?

I think it was just 2 groups and I am in an overlap

Pretty certain some came from the high fence cattle ranch (used to have some exotics) but I looked and did not see a crossing/hole/dig under

Turned out she was a he in the pic with 8, it was dark and I was in a hurry and took a quick glance. Rechecked the next morning and saw it was a male.
The one today was a young female

Got our hides ready to sell.
We'll see I guess on the coyotes, hoping the cats save us and bring a decent price but the 2 are not the best.
Have to wait until Feb 19 for one buyer coming through and the FHA shipper is through in March or April.

Good luck on the sale wytex

Cell cam sending me pictures of 3rd coyote in a week caught. Waiting on dad to do a some plumbing work and it is drizzling so going out around lunch to take care of it.
I would not skin a coyote to sell down here, skinning alone would not be worth the best you could get.
I skinned the big male I caught and sent to tannery because the wife wanted a coyote hide and it was big for here and fur was decent.

Just killed a hog.
Probably put in 4-8 sets tomorrow.
All easy checks. My want-to has declined with the density of coyote sign.

Got a call for a removal of a coyote that’s trapped inside the high fence. Or he was at least. Found where he actually chewed through the wire at ground level where it was rusted. Put a snare in the crawl through and set two k9 extremes about 50 yrds either side as he’s running the fence line a lot! One flat set was with a deer hide the other was with a deer leg. Made a few others close by at road intersects. Fingers crossed !

Most of my place is flooded out. Pulled all the traps before the flood, and hoping to get some set this weekend in upland areas.

Put in some blind sets today where I have seen coyotes traveling on game camera. Now to remember not to run over them while checking traps since they are in the ruts of the 4 wheeler trail

Planning on moving a couple of cameras tomorrow that are set up on traps. Noticed the glow is boogering about half the coyotes that it gets video of

House cats is what I thought, bear cubs is what my wife guessed

Not sure if coydogs or just dark coyotes. Never remember seeing a coyote carrying tail like that

Notice times, clearly a coyote in 3rd pic

That was the very first one Id ever caught. Idk why that one was a toe and the others were full pads. End result was the same lol.

Tomorrow will be 12 days in on trying to target a coyote inside a high fence operation. I had him yesterday but he was toe caught and pulled off 2 toes and got out :-(. If he not bouncing on a chain tomorrow I’m pulling out and going to let him settle down and hit him again in 2 to 3 weeks.

I put a scent post set just outside the catch circle. Maybe I’ll get luck but I’m not counting on it lol ! The last pic is the remake with the scent post.

That one is going to be a trophy to catch again after getting 2 toes.

Keep after him/her though

Blind set in a trail maybe?

A comment on my trapping program effectiveness.
I have a young doe, first set of fawns, I believe, that had them late. They are small, she is small and skinny from nursing, but they are all 3 still alive.
If there ever was a bunch of deer that coyotes would target, I think those 3 would be it.

Brute that doe with fawns is a testament to your predator control. It amazes me the people will spend 10s to hundreds of thousands on their deer herd,, only to let the predators eat them.

Update to post #364

May just be wild dogs or dogs that run with coyotes or the coyote just happened to show up a couple minutes after them?

Good try! That one is going to be hard to catch again. Probably will require a blind set of some sort - trail set or snare, set with little human scent as possible. I’m amazed at how fast you new guys get the hang of trapping and become proficient at it. Back in “the day” it was mostly trial and error, with a few tips from the old timers. We didn’t have forums or videos. A few elemental booklets of sorts helped, but mostly learned the hard way. Good job guys (and gals)!

Caught a big bred female on my lease up the road from me. A group came up last weekend and out of 12 traps they ran over 8. To say I’m discouraged is an understatement. With this cold snap I feel I could have caught a couple more. Such is life :-/

Got another male

#8 off of my place since I started in December
5 males and 3 females so far

Also first one I have ever caught in a blind set. No bait or lure, just a trap in the 4 wheeler tracks

If you have a trap dug out do you move it a little ways or reset in same location but maybe move the trap in relation to the bait?

I never do. Most dig outs are coons or possums. I just rebed the trap.

Well went out yesterday and re-bedded all my traps that got ran over and added a few more. Lease manager called the area I’m trapping off limits to any ATV traffic till I’m done trapping so I super happy about that. Had a present waiting for me in the first trap. Hopefully more to come in the next few days.

I wish I was that good. I’ve came up with a couple of flat set veriations through trial and error that nobody I’ve seen is using. I’m flat out slaying the mature set shy coyotes with it. I tried to come up with a more politically correct name but the “hairy taco set” just fits it so well !
