I would beg to differ. The founders didn't want a particular denomination to become the national religion. They certainly did envision Christianity within it's many different denominations to be the foundation of the nation.

America was founded on the "freedom" of religion. Even though, if you didn't practice what the founders did, they would kill you, burn you at the stake, imprison you put put you in the stocks. Good stuff like that. Quakers man.

The founding fathers though, seemed to be devout Christians. I didn't know them personally so I can't vouch. We go by their writings and ideals. They believed in the freedom to decide your religion.
