Removing a member from a deer lease

I know at some point, some of you guys have had to have told someone they weren’t welcome back on a lease for the next season. There’s a chance I may have to do that next year with one that’s just always creating drama. How have y’all done it in the past, for those of you that have? Just tell them they aren’t welcome back and they have whatever amount of time to get their stuff out?

Subscribed. I got put in charge of our place last year. Fortunately we have a great group and hope to never have to do this but will be good to be prepared.

Have done it 3 times in the past...
        1. don't do it alone. Have a co-manager with you.
        2. Have a written copy of your lease rules/contract to reference.
        3. Give the specific reason(s) and point out the violation(s) in the rules
        4. I do it at the end of the lease year unless it is an immediate termination offense.

        5. Give them the standard time to get personal equipment/gear off the property. After that time has passed they need to understand that if they tresspass onto the property, that they will be filed on for criminal tresspass.

If you don't have a written set of rules/contract, Good luck. Hope it goes well for you. If it does get ugly, escort the offender off the property and change the locks on the gate/access to the property immediately and notify all other members... (in writing).

Tell them you're going a different direction. They'll start asking 1000 questions don't need to be answered. Give them a dead date to get everything off.

Take this with a grain of salt as I don't run a lease...

I would get a couple of other lease participants to be at the meeting when the "drama queen" is told. Assuming this person is/has been the sole cause of the drama situations you can be sure he will be in full tantrum mode when told. Might as well have a couple of witnesses just in case the authorities need to get involved to get him and his stuff off the place in an orderly manner.

See post #4 Señor Saltwaterslick has covered responded very well...

I have had to do it several times and it was never easy for me. The only advice I have is let them know early as you can so they can get their stuff and start looking for another lease.
The leases I have now I lease and then sublease. I was on hunting clubs before and it was always something and very hard to vote a member off.

Do you have a written agreement with rules? Has he violated rules?
Or it's just a personality conflict?
Either way, not easy, but if there are violations of an agreement you have a better leg to stand on.

It's never easy! This is solid advice on how to make it happen. Depending on the situation you may also want to explain the situation to the landowner in case they try to contact them. Good luck!

We have done it before and the last time bit us. They one who was kicked off turned around and offered the land owner (LO) more money with another group. He also told the LO all kinds off stories and we all got kicked off and he moved his group in....

                    Good luck

Don’t do it before the end of season so they don’t shoot their way out of there.

Around here.....The most common reason for a member being removed is killing the biggest deer on the lease two years in a row. I dont know how your agreement reads but most have a disclaimer that members can vecremoved at the managers discretion.
