    This hurt the heart

We had this guy on camera during the summer and a few months later was riding the ranch and spotted something in the brush. I wanted someone on our place to harvest him so bad. Preferable me... lol free range

That sucks but at least you found him and can make a very nice mount

Bummer. That happened to me a couple of years ago. I had a nice drop tine buck that I was hoping to harvest. Had him on camera the 9th of September, found him dead a week later. I never did determine what happened to him.

Wow! What a trophy he would have been!

That's a cool lookin skull. Looks like The Predator except with big antlers.

I would stain the horns and find me a replacement cape and mount him.

I wouldn't mount a found dead animal. But that's just me.

Such a cool set of horns! I'm fortunate that I own a place with lots of Axis but I have never seen a non typical. If I ever shoot a trophy Axis again (we have 3 on wall already) it will be a non typical.

Love the characteristics of that rack! 👍 Sucks that you couldn't get to him first.

If I had history with the animal, he lived on my place, and was targeting him all year, I definitely would. It would have to be a truly special animal for me to do it, but this Axis qualifies. For me it’s not about pulling trigger.

Dang, thats a heck of an axis. I would definitely restore the color on the antlers and find some kind of skull mounting kit and put him on display somewhere.

Axis capes are easy to find. Get your taxidermist to get a cape and mount the antlers. Not many like that one, shame to let it go without getting it mounted.
