But on a serious note, back in the spring when I hog hunted I just dropped down adjacent to 35. There was an erosion fence that I had to drive around but that was it. And far as I know, the landowner still has to access off that road unless it changed.
Thanks for the reply. The low water crossing that had rock in it is now blocked off. I'm hoping they just did it to keep things from getting rutted up after the rain.

That crap happened to me, too. It's one thing to be a thief. It's a different kind of a-hole that steals a card just to mess with you.

Grapevine goings-on seem to be pretty crazy this year. Cards stolen, guys out with machetes chopping crap down, guy out with axe making mock rub lines, guy bird/varmint hunting in the middle of the season, peppering me in the tree, guy out way back in just raking a path in the dirt (non-hunter), armadillo club yielding hunters, thugs walking by flipping off cameras and turning the camera facing the sky, seeing people cut holes in the barbwire border fences, someone throwing rocks in the pond way back in in the dark last night at my buddy, camp tent way back in the thick stuff, cell cams sitting over mineral blocks, crackpipe hideout found in the middle of the woods with fresh pipe left out.

But there are big ole bucks out there so I guess we deal with it.

Sounds about right! One correction though - there are no deer at grapevine, certainly none of the big ole variety

Hey Y'all, new to the community and first year at Grapevine. Glad to hear there are no deer out there! Spoke with the office yesterday and they weren't really helpful. According to the person I spoke with there are only two spots you can park legally, and he said I could not park at the boat ramp to walk/boat in. Does this sound right? seems like a lot of land with very little legal access if so.

Duck hunters park at the boat ramp and boat in. Deer hunters can do the same. I park lots of places until I get told I can't. Haven't had a problem all season long.

The DFW Corps hunting manual says you are allowed to park on roadsides on Corps property, but at your own risk.

“Vehicles must be parked in Corps designated areas or along roadsides on Corps property without blocking the passage of other vehicles or gate openings. Parking on other public roadways is at your own risk and contacting local law enforcement is recommended.”

See pages 5-6 of the manual.

Thanks for the follow up. I definitely got some info over the phone that conflicts with the manual. I want to make sure I was clear on all the regulations before I went out.

I parked under the 377 bridge to scout in September. Took the road down to river west of 377 and Austin left me a note saying I was not allowed to park there and they were going to be blocking off the road. First year hunting here is that the only boat ramp?

Sounds like this Austin cat just wants to make it as hard to hunt the vine as he can! Not worried about all the BS that goes on down there just worried about the hunters taking their cameras down dumb *** rule and parking that road is harmless. I think the vine is coming to an end soon it is ran by the government or he hunts it himself. Probably the case!

Have you been to the office? Manpower is an issue, they certainly don’t Have the amount of folks they need to manage all of the land. Not only that, but they aren’t any kind of enforcement agency, either local PD or TPWD game wardens/peace officers can “police” them so to say.

The office is on the message board here and they do read it, but I’m pretty sure they would rather not have to go around and look for rule breakers. Any public land is only as good as the ****tiest person that uses it, there are far worse places nearby that grapevine.

I’m super grateful to have a place 15 minutes from the house where I can take my son out. I’ll trade picking up some trash I see or leaving better than I found it for the issues that seem to come up.

Well this morning I had somebody on camera at almost 2am this morning spot lighting the hogs I had on camera minutes prior. Pretty sure they shot one because I have a photo of it appearing to be limping off.

Last night, I came out and bumped into a nice buck with a doe. I stood in front of them with my headlamp for 5 minutes. He was a nice buck!

I went out midday today and walked around. I setup 3 times and did rattling sequences. The third spot I rattled in a descent buck. He was upwind and couldn't see or smell anything so he hung up then walked off. He got to about 40 yards. He wasn't a giant but a nice buck. Cool encounter. Checked a few cams and bucks running does. We are definitely in the middle of it!

Hunters, parking always seems to brought up. We only have a few parking spots that are actually located on USACE property. 1) knob hills trail head off Hwy 377 2) Dunham road aka cross timbers trail head (long walk for deer hunting but easy access for pig only portion 3) Trophy Club Park boat ramp, but please remember its a boat ramp, so do not park in a spot designated for vehicles with boat trails if you don't have one. Any other spots are at your own risk, but if its a legal parking spot then it should not be an issue, you can always ask local PD. As far as the trail beside the RR tracks, that did not exist before the train derailment, 2017ish. The rail road company never blocked it off after using it for repair. And our property is 70yards give or take from that road/RR track intersection. So we say don't go down that road because that is technically trespassing across private property. And we don't allow vehicles off roadways, that is not a roadway. If you are not aware sooner or later HWY 377 is going to get expanded and we plan to make the knob hills trail lot larger, which you can park now at then walk under 377 its not that far. We are also looking at adding an access on South end near bobcat if possible with the expansion.

Hope ya'll are having a good season and get some meat for freezer and something to brag about, but to bad there are not deer at the vine! Happy Thanksgiving and stay safe .

How can we all help? What does it take to add parking areas? Many **** and moan about The Vine and the Corp offices regarding hunting the Vine. I’m guilty of it. I started hunting there in 2004 when tags were as easy as walking up to the office in Lewisville, at the time. Honestly though…. How can we as hunters assist the in these efforts for more parking? Money? Man power? Both? What’s needing to be done? I’m willing to bet just the folks on this site could gather some manpower and even some to help knowing it’d go directly to additional parking.

Can you get agreements in place so we can park at all gates? I know of at least 1 gate bordered by private land that you cannot park at or even walk to without going through private land first.

Does anyone know the reasoning behind the hog only hunting area? Just curious why that area would be off limits for deer.

I still hunted this morning and saw 7 bucks (3 shooters) and 2-3 does. One was a real wide 10 pointer I've had pics of since the summer but haven’t seen for a while. The second was a legal 6-7 pointer but not a giant. The third was possibly the biggest deer I've seen on the hoof. Also have trail cam pics of him in a number of different spots but hadn’t seen him on the hoof before. I was going to cross the field to my next setup and bumped him, a doe and a satellite buck. The 2 bigger bucks were with does; the others were solo. Nothing was in bow range but it was a cool morning. Happy Thanksgiving!

Hunted opening day saw some does and a buck they all got my scent and ran also saw a bobcat but didn’t get a shot opportunity. Since then I have fixed with spray and evercalm. This evening walking in to my spot I noticed 3 rubs a few feet apart on the trail to where I sit. Saw one buck rutting where my truck was fixin to be parked and I tried to stalk him but he didn’t stay around. Coming in to spot busted probably 6 deer including some bucks. Tons of tracks and scat where I’m at hoping to get my first bow deer but unfortunately I’m hunting from a natural ground blind so chances are limited sometimes. Good luck and happy thanksgiving to y’all!

Anyone on here hunting feeders on public land off 114? You don’t have to post publicly. You can message me. Just wanna give you warning before I text the game warden.

Larry why didn't you warn all of us there was a legend out in the field. No wonder we are not having luck. The deer are all running scared.

Sounds like a great morning! Based on previous years surveys you saw more bucks this morning than most folks see in a season.

After my evening sit today, saw total of 10 deer. Unfortunately all on the hike in and back. Drew back on a buck while I was walking in and let an arrow fly. Used the 30 pin when he was at 15-20 yards. Don’t know why but yeah. Arrow went over his back and he ducked.

Might check with the office first, they do put them out from time to time for survey purposes.

I've seen a feeder right in the middle of corps land before, it's older, pretty sure it was for a survey.
