    Skid loader Stump Bucket w/Grapple

Pops owns a New Holland L185, pretty large machine, but still doesn't dig too well, here in the Hill Country. Seems to me the width of a normal bucket sometimes works against its self. So, years ago I started looking for a cheap backhoe bucket to turn into a "stump- bucket". Picked up this Wayne Roy(?) 24" bucket at an auction for $85. Click image for larger version

Quick test and realized I needed to change the angle a bit to make sure it would dump completely.

Adding "hinge" for grapple. Used 2 3/8 pipe with 2 7/8 over it. Added collars to prevent extra movement. Two zerks to keep it lubed up. Click image for larger version

Looks good. I need to do the same thing for my skid steer. Just use the forks for digging up stumps now but they are limited to what they can get up.

I love it! My brother and I went halves on their MicroCut 380 plasma cutter about 12 years ago. I have taken it all over the US and cut plenty of 3/8 (slowly). Just keeps rocking. My Mig 200 I have had for about 7 years. It makes me smile often. Last year I bought their little Mig 130 (110v) for doing stuff like carports/purlin. They are all well built and haven't given me any problems. I know I won't buy another Lincoln. Great customer service too.

That looks good. I've been trying to find a 1" bucket to do the same thing for my Bobcat 863. I think it's too rocky here for the 2'er.

Ah!!! Don't tell me that! . I really wish I could have found one about 18" but these things seem to hold their value quite well. I know we got this 24" at a steal. It had almost now use, I probably should have sold it for several hundred and just made a bucket. Good luck brother.

mocking up the new longer grapple. Using a thicker walled 2 3/8 pipe.

I have a 2.5" cylinder I'm going to use to cycle the grapple, but found out it needs new seals...anyone know a good place for purchasing them if I do it myself?

Appreciate the kind words. My first hydraulic project...trying to get the alignment challenges right the first time.
