Creep feeder gate

Bought a creep feeder gate for calves from Dubois over in lometa.
The gaps are 21-22”.
Vertical height is adjustable.
Anybody ever built one? What size gap should it be? have some smaller black baldies cows.

I have seen them as narrow as 14” online.

The ones I use are 17". They work ok with the exception that sometimes a smaller framed young cow may find her way into the feed trough. Other than that 17" works for me.

Going to weld some vertical bars in and also put some removable vertical bars for when they grow. I have some smaller cows that will try that 22” gap.

We built one years ago. We ran a top and bottomn 2-3/8 pipe across and blew holes in it so its adjustable then just dropped 1in sucker rod in it. I run mine down pretty small like 14-17 i would think generally.
