I ride the DORBA at Isle Du Bois a couple times a week when it is open. Been closed a lot this year due to rain. I'll probably be out there after work this evening.

Nice bikes! I used to ride and race quite a bit. Now my titanium Litespeed just hangs and collects dust in my garage. Diagnosed with MS in 08 and my legs won't let me do it much anymore. I miss it tremendously as it was a huge part of my life.

I was riding a lot when I worked mids and had days off during the week. Now I just play more than anything and sold my carbon Pivot and got a Surly Krampus.

Just got my old Gary Fisher fixed up! It hadn't been ridden in 4 years... Originally got it fixed up because I'll use it for public land hunts this year, but after a few rides I remembered how fun it is! Will definitely be riding more.

Today I learned the art of the fall. I rode Oak Cliff Nature Preserve, and realized that I was a little too confident on some of my jumps and descents. That resulted in a few washout landings and a true-blue over-the-bars. Chock it up as a learning experience, be glad it wasnít worse, and move on.

Note: Helmet, gloves, knee pads, and water bladder saved a lot of bumps and cuts. Bruises will definitely be there tomorrow.

Just picked up a brand new ride yesterday. My old Kona was going to cost more to fix it up than what it was worth so my wife said lets go ahead and get you a new one. Man did I luck out in the wife department!! Cant wait to start bombing down the trails in this badboy, and to start losing more weight!!

I have a pair of hard tails. 29 Fat Tire and a 27.5 EV

2500 watt - 38 mph - 52v

I've had the EV at 58 mph - downhill run on pavement. I use it to cruise around town when I want to run errands and basically go anywhere and explore no matter the terrain.

The 29 fatty is fun as well - but it collects more dust than the EV ride.

The EV goes places even a Motorcycle can't go - so darn light and unbelievable torque - no noise. It's torque is unreal and I can go literally vertical over stuff at super slow speeds - riding the hydraulic brakes. If flips folks out to see me literally crawling at a snails pace, slow peddle with power assist, riding the brakes on vertical stuff that you really can't pull off without the torque of this electric motor. Like a Trials Motorcycle with zero noise.

At my age - having the EV motor - has me riding 30 - 40 mile spins everywhere without having to be a super fitness freak, to manage the hills where I live. Hills flat out kick anyone's arse and power assist is a blessing for these beat up knees.

It will pop wheelies with ease and I zoom off riding the back tire, when I have a few kids around to show them - OLD DUDES ROCK!

Default Any Mountain Bike Riders in here?

There are some really good trails in DFW, considering the elevation. Go to Dorba.com and download the app. They update trail closings very regularly. Also, a few Facebook pages for trails in Texas. Iíd be down to ride with some folks. I got a new bike, since I started this thread, and canít get enough of it.

Thatís pretty accurate. $900 to the $1000 mark gives you a lot of your higher-end components, and latest upgrades. $400 range will get you on a decent frame, but will weight about 5lbs heavier and have most entry-level components.

You have your major brands in Santa Cruz, Specialized, Trek, Giant, etc. Many very good companies are bringing their level of competition up to the level of the big brands. Some older known brands like Marin, Diamondback, Raleigh, etc. have stepped back into the game and offer some really good bikes for cheaper than the big names.

Flat Rock Ranch - near Comfort Texas, is the best MTB trail near San Antonio. It's a 19 mile single loop - Intermediate to Advanced with some serious elevation changes. Grades 3% - 17%. They stage sanctioned races here.

Leon Creek Bike Trail - west of San Antonio, runs 13 miles. It has sections that are off pavement - around the mid and North sections of the bike path. The main track is paved sidewalk - through greenbelt areas, lot of wildlife and a decent quiet workout on an easier tract. As you pedal along the paved section, you will see dirt paths out into the rugged brush and Leon Creek drainage zone.

About 300 miles of bike paths in San Antonio - paved variety. Along those paved routes are dirt/rock paths - dozens of them. I will ride 30 - 40 miles just for cardio on the paved/dirt stuff in a day - at times. Lot of various riders and bike types - street dudes ride mixed with MTB

Old thread but it seems like the best mountain bike thread. Started looking for a bike back in April and little did I know everything would be sold out all over.

After some research I finally found what I wanted... Commencal Meta HT AM. I ordered Aug 2 and it finally came yesterday after almost 5 months.

Brushy Creek can be pretty technical. Great trail though. I quit riding my mountain bike several years back. Really would like to start again. I never was a great rider but spent a lot of time on Lake Georgetown trails, Dana Peak and several others. I have a 2012 model Santa Cruz Tallboy Lt that's in great shape. I need to get my fat a** back on it.

No experience with them, I ride a Santa Cruz.

Not sure what type of riding your looking to do, but you can find some higher end bikes that are used for good prices if your patient.

You looking for x country riding or mainly local trails where you live?

I used to ride pretty consistently a couple years back. Last time I rode was a week before my wedding. We hit some downhill stuff and I went back up for seconds. When I came to the step down I tried to drop a gear to get some extra speed to clear a gap and my gears slipped. Came off the step down and knocked myself out cold. Thereís still a 30 minute gap I donít remember and I had actually forgotten that I was getting married for about an hour and a half lol I havenít ridden trails since then and not sure that I will. Iíve got too much of my free time occupied by fishing and hunting to pick up another hobby anyways!

Just got my bike back in working order. Anyone ride around the San Angelo area? Looking to ride to get some exercise in. Zero experiance on actual trail riding so would like to ride some beginner trails.

I was thinking of exploring the state park and the twin butes areas. Any suggestions are welcome.

That HT looks like a lot of fun. I am set on a Spesh Fuse, but never got my hands on one. Definitely a shortage, I've heard all the frames are made in Taiwan.

If you guys are in the DFW area, a few stores are starting to get some decent inventory. Dallas Bike Works has entry-level all the way up to $10,000 yetis. All of the Sun and ski locations are starting to have decent stock, and Trek bought out a bunch of the local bike shops, and has new stock in almost all of them. I like supporting LBS over corporate, but if this gets you on a bike, then go get it.

Wish I could get off road. But my back and body won't let me take the jarring. I do ok with my mnt bike on the street most of the time. It obsorbs a lot of the shock. I've got some vertebrae fusing together.
