Shot a 47 lb coyote last night. As you will hear I was pretty excited. We had been skunked the past 3 trips and I think the ranch owner was starting to think they need to find another predator hunter lol.

FOUL LANGUAGE AFTER THE SHOT.

Guys, I’m new to looking at thermals, what are some of the best places to buy thermal rifle scopes?

Not only is Jason at Outdoor Legacy Gear a sponsor, if you call him and let him know what you want to do with your thermal (budget, game, distance of shots, etc), he'll recommend the best one for your application.

I was able to watch this bobcat stalk up on this rabbit from over 100 yards away. Caught the actual chase on thermal.

Here are some videos from last night. First is a sounder of pigs rooting up nutgrass. They get out into the cotton stalks super fast limiting follow up shots.

https://youtu.be/v2IUVYOkLDc

Coyote number one. Stalked with 350 yards then lip squeaked him in to around 110-120. There was another coyote too, but when I got it stopped he was right behind a pivot drop.

https://youtu.be/3ufdxCHA0L0

The coyote that got away stopped out where the original one came from. We stalked it to about 200-210 yards and I shot it.

https://youtu.be/pVRA8ed8jJA

Called a third coyote up with the Convergent while we were trying to call pigs. Surprised me to see it come rolling in hard like that to a pig call. Killed it about 160 yards.

https://youtu.be/OTKtxoKvz5A

We got on another sounder of pigs and killed several more, but it all happened real fast when it came time to shoot and I didn't get the record button hit.

Hey guys, thank you SO much for all the referrals and shout outs! It really means a lot. I'm sorry I haven't been as active recently over here in this thread but we've had our busiest month....3 months....heck the busiest year (lol) and I've just been trying to keep my head above water. Heck even the hogs think I'm not as mad at them as I used to be but I'm still killing enough to let them know I haven't forgotten about them!

Figure you boys may like this little video I put together of last nights shenanigans.

Thermion XM50 I have access to borrow for the recording and shooting 3 of the 11 pigs were killed with a sightmark wraith. Other buddy has a trijicon reap-ir 35 but for some reason it was dying after first shot so he hit 2 but was all he was able to shoot. Let me know what y'all think about the video liable to make another one in June.

Can you give us some idea of the ranges? Seemed like you were aiming high on some shots, but not sure. Why wait until June, there's plenty more out there.

Got a hog Saturday night. Gun was shooting to the right the last time I shot it but I was so close to this one it didnt shoot very far to the right which resulted in a shot a little back. I should have just put another one in him when he was fluttering on the ground.

Has a 3lb velocity trigger in it already. Not sure what you think your seeing where I am jerking it. Was shooting off a cheap pair of Cabela's shooting sticks. Not a clamp on style tripod so recoil is still noticable in the video. And on second group was basically free hand with elbow rested on the high seat only for a rest. Probably what you were seeing.

Last group was probably 50 ish yds I would guess. First group we should have waited and let them get way closer but was first group and we were itching to shoot lol they were probably 100 ish starting out and getting further out as they ran. 2nd group was probably 100 ish as well going further as they got out. I suck at ranging with a thermal though so these are swags. That last group was close though I do know that and it sure helps get them killed when you are closer.

A few videos from the past year. I finally got a video editing software so I am now able to remove the un needed footage.

This video is from an Axion XM30 and does not show its true image quality. This hunt happened quick and I was working the call so I didn't have the objective lense focused and I couldn't tell you the last time I NUC'd it.

https://youtu.be/HEga-V1njpA

Hog hunt. Shot it with a Ruger 204 32 grain. Shot placement is everything.

Looking at buying the super Hogster. Was looking at outdoor legacy website and shows out of stock. Also saw where there was a back order spot for $100. So my question is do I select the $100 option to get on back order list. I’m assuming that the $100 is a deposit that will go towards the price of scope once it comes in. Guess I could just wait to give them a call Monday. Also does anyone one know how long the wait is on back order.

I'm under the same assumption as I paid for the $100 backorder for a thermion yesterday.

$100 is a deposit that gets you on the waiting list. You can call them and theyll give you an idea of their best guess of how long the wait will be. Im not sure about the Super Hogster but they were guessing 12 weeks on the Thermion XQ38 and a little less on the XQ50 not to long ago but if you call or email, theyll give you a real estimate.

I think you will be very happy with that scope. I love my Thermion XP50 and it shares all the same guts as a Trail. The picture quality is amazing.

I just put a deposit on Super Hogster this morning. I will try and get in touch with you soon with some questions. Sounds like your phones are down at the moment due to snow. Look forward to talking with you in next day or two.

not a lot of difference other than super has internal recording and a little better at detection. Go check out super Hogster vs Hogster 35 on YouTube.

I think the 3x base magnification is a good happy meduim and is a big plus on the Super Hogster as well as having the better microns on the sensor.

Pulsar just dropped the Thermion XM30 this maybe the new conteder for the entry level market guys it looks like. And it includes video recording and all the fun stuff the big boy thermions have at $2300.

You got to play with one of these yet Jason? How does it compare the the hogster 35?

I am curious to hear more on this entry level Pulsar and the Hogster. BUT having been in the game for 4 years, I will say you get what you pay for.

I have yet to see a scope that was cheap that could do what the 5-6500 dollar thermals can do.

I am kind of new to the thermal world but I bought a Pulsar Thermion XP50 last month and I love it. Been giving hogs a night time surprise that they were not ready for.

Has anyone had any issues with the Stream Vision Ap? I lose connection frequently and the videos don't have sound while viewing them on the ap.

The app will make you want to throw your phone through the window. It worked flawlessly the first couple times but I cant keep it connected now to do an update. I have an andriod/samsung phone and I have tried to delete and re download the app. Nothing has worked. Very frustrating considering there is a firmware update that I need to do.

I am not sure if you can hear sound on the app, I strongly suggest you just download them directly to your computed. Make sure the audio recording is turned on in the settings of the scope.

Agreed. A 300 resolution scope will never look as good as a 600 resolution scope. There are now several good 300 resolution scopes if 600 resolution is not in your budget.

I have an iPhone and I'm able to update the firmware when there's one available. My wife likes to watch what I see when I'm shooting and it dropping out has been a pain.

I wish it had a manual focus. Fixed focus at 3.5x base mag or I wouldve already ordered one. Interested to hear what Jason says about them as well

Yep, adjustable focus is going to up the price..

I personally view the adjustable focus as a necessity....unless you obviously jump in to the high end ones...

You think its a non issue in flir 233s/ pulsar rxqs or are you talking about Nvisions / trijicons ?

Make that three thermals I've owned with fixed focus. You just reminded me that I owned a PTS 233 as well.

Think of adjustable focus on a thermal like adjustable parallax correction on a day scope. Day scopes that have fixed focus are set by the manufacturer at the range they think most people will use them. It's a total non-issue for most shooters. Thermal is basically the same story.

In for Jason's feedback as well, this is more within my budget. I don't know a lot about any of them, I'm just taking y'all's words on the manual and fixed focus.

Good catch on the fixed focus. Of course we want the best of both worlds........ We want it to not cost as much but function as best it can. I will say this, this appears to be the same hardware as the Axion XM30 in a thermion housing which means a much larger objective lense. I am constantly focusing my Axion XM30 so I can ID animals as far as possible. Hopefully the larger objective lense on the Thermion will make this a non factor however I work the focus on all the other thermions I have used to get the best picture possible so maximize the range of the scope so I am not optomistic but hopeful.

Have you used a Thermion? Not being a smart *****, legitimately asking the question. It would seem that something is different about the Thermions that need it to be focused more. To your point I remember Jason saying on an old late night vision show that on the trails, you could set the focus and it woul be good for 50 yards to (if my memory serves me correctly) 400 yards which is pretty impressive so in that instance I would agree with your statement. My only point is that there seems to be something different about the thermions that needs a focusable objective lense. I know I work mine quite a bit in my XP50 and my buddies XG50 to get the best picture possible so we can make sure we are ID animals accurately so we dont make a expensive mistake.
