Default Youíre daughter wants to barrel race... remember this..

Remember this pic ... it’s tons of sacrifice , $$$, late night drives , early morning slack... it’s giving up weekends , it’s giving up family functions... but if your kid wants it and dreams it that’s sacrifices that you must be willing to make ... it’s also freezing your butt off wearing 4-5 layers of clothes to try to stay warm and embarrassing your kiddo with chosen sweatshirt .. Is it worth it.. hell yeah it is

Her exact response was “ Seriously Dad” but it’s all a journey and one I hope someday she looks back on and says “ what memories”

Oh yea, it is worth it. 3 daughters, Only one had the need for speed. She is married with 2 kids, Still fond memories of all the hauling and long late nights on the road. She still knows the words to most all of Hank Williams songs from a old Hank's greatest hits CD that we wore out on those thousands of miles between rodeos. Her last barrel horse just passed and is buried in the back pasture. Good times, great memories.

Nice! The life lessons rodeo is teaching her are secondary to the lessons on how to be a parent she is getting first hand and doesn't even know.
Congratulations on both of your success.

This for sure! It rings true for so many different things. For my two boys- the eldest is a power lifter and the youngest a college football player. Both of them learned their sports from me. However, they are learning life lessons that they will hand down to my grandchildren one day. It is so much more than just the sport!!

If a young lady barrel races long enough, she'll eventually become a professional dirt engineer, a master farrier and have the equine knowledge of the top .1% of all practicing vets... I kid, I kid! Well done Brandon!!

We did "all of the above" for our son with baseball. He is fortunate that he is now playing baseball in college at a small D3 in the UP of MI. Now it's a lot of $$$ and vaca to go see him when he plays due to airfare, hotels, and rental cars, but IDC.

I would do it all over again as I am sure you would as well for your daughter.

Best wishes for the young lady in her pursuits!

Embarrassing them is payback for all you mentioned along with tge "must have" massive trailer with sleeping quarters, the constant desire for a 15 second horse, and buying a new bit every week thinking that will make tge difference. But, ya gotta love em.

Way to go dad. You're doing it right. Grady Allen is friend of mine but I haven't hunted with him in several years. I'm sure you know his daughter Kappy. Good luck to your daughter. Don't take one moment for granted and enjoy the ride.

Nope Gator runs in one bit... he warms up in another. He knows his job just like Riley knows hers. It’s kinda of funny how after they warm up and they switch bits it’s like the flip/turn the hat backward moment it’s time to go. Gator has probably now over 100k in earnings both professional and amateur he knows his job

Yes, Great man. He used to come up to Fork and take pictures of us with fish, ducks etc. You never knew when you might open a Field and Stream and see your picture. He would invite us to stay at his house every year and goose hunt on one of his properties. Our kids were always welcome. Great man!

That's a good horse. Awesome for her. Definitely a sport that teaches responsibility like no other. I make jokes on the stereotypes in rodeo, but have to commend and give respect for all we do for horses.

Gator is big and strong and a jackass big kid most times. He is fast but has to trust the jockey. Itís taken awhile for them to build trust. Iím not so sure the previous owner wasnít abusive in some way. Gaining his trust has taken time

I hear ya. Both my wife and daughter turned cans and roped. I’m the banker, videographer, equine chauffeur, chute boss, tack repairer and whipping boy. But it’s all worth it when they wrap their arms around your neck in a big hug and say thanks for all you do.
