Round 2!!!! Struck out this morning Didn't even see anything. Bought a bike last night then went home packed all my gear... Work up 4 and headed to the parents house to get the game cart... Got there at 5 and started to assemble my cargo rack on the bike to attach the game cart too... An hour later I get it finished and head out... Pull up to my gate about 715 and get everything out.... Quickly put everything on the game cart and attach the gamecart to the bike... Well the cargo rack Was missing two screws so I attached that part with some nylon rope.... About 1/2 mile back that ripe snaps and bends the cargo rack to crap and my game cart is Ridin my tire... Get out and "fix" that by useing my stand rope... Another 1/2 mile and everything keeps hittin the wheel cause the rack is bent...finally get it adjusted right and finish off my next 2 miles... Drop the bike and cart off and walk in the last 200 yards to my tree.... Get halfway up the tree and forgot to tie my pack/bow off in my rush so I have to go all the way back to the bike to get it.... By the time I get up in the stand its 855 and I'm soaking wet from sweat (so much for my scent killer spray)

Anyway.... Went to Walmart after I ate and got 50000 zip ties and a doe/fawn bleet call... Already up in the stand at 215pm and ready to rock. Gl to everyone else out here... To all of you at work even with all my problems I'm still sure glad I wasn't with y'all!!!

Yes, you have to camp in the hunter's camps right now. No dispersed camping until after deer season is over. Hunters camps are free. Look on the maps, it's 208H road. Kellies Pond Hunters camp is closed right now I believe.

Alright, I'm heading out the door to go sit in the heat and slay some deer! Good Luck guys, shoot straight.

Default Yotes and Hogs?

Good afternoon Gents! Does anyone know of anyone who needs yotes and hogs removed from their farm/land?!? I haven't been able to find any hogs in the SHNF and killing a yote with a bow has its challenges. I'm just looking for a little long range fun with my AR and some pork chops sound good too!!

you have to wear a cap and vest ALL YEAR LONG in the national forest. You NEVER have to wear orange in the archery only sections.

Start grassing over there and spot like 4 raccoons headed my way lol apparently deer blow coons too... Tossed a few fawn bleats and a doe bleet to see if I can get it my way (the deer)

I have always said this same thing. I have called the SHNF office and they agreed. However I am now being told by a friend of the enforcement officer that he will give a citation to anyone not wearing orange. His reasoning is the rule book says you do not have to wear it if there is not an open hunting season in the UNIT. SHNF is considered UNIT 905. ALL OF IT!!!!

So by that reason, they will be issuing citations. At least that is what I am being told now.

I think it's a better idea to wear orange in the archery only, for safety reasons if nothing else. Don't really mean to start the debate over again, just remembered seeing this post a few days ago.

This excerpt is taken from the Public Hunting book, page xi:

Prohibited Acts:

Hunter Orange:

Fails to visible wear at least 400 square inches of hunter orange material with orange headwear and at least 144 square inches appearing on both chest and back during daylight hours at times when hunting with firearms is permited. Exempt from these requirements are: (1) authorized department personnel and landowner employess, (2) persons hunting turkey or migratory birds, (3) persons within the enclosed passenger compartment of a motor hehicle, (4) persons within a designated campground, designated vehicle parking area, designated boat launching facility or departmental check station, and (5) persons other than hunters on COE properties.

NOTICE to archery hunters and recreational users:You must wear hunter orange during daylight hours at any time when firearm hunting for any species is authorized on the unit. Many units allow firearm hunting year-round for rabbits, and firearm hunts for squirrel and dove often are conducted concurrently with archery deer hunts.

After reading this I can see how they could cite you because you are on the UNIT 905, which allows firearm hunting. I guess I will be wearing my orange now

Did a good bit of scouting today with a couple of nice locations found for rifle season. I just could not find what I felt to be a good bow setup though.

On another note I was scouting and looked down and there lay a hog tusk lol...First time too ever find one in the woods. It was about 4in long.

You can legally hunt deer in TX till 30 minutes after sunset.

Watefowl hunting, however, does end at sunset. Just a tidbit of extra info. for ya'.

Settled in a tree after three trip up the darn thing. Thought I had everything ready. Climbed. Pulled my bow rope up only to realize I didn't tie it to the bow. Climbed down. Tied the bow. Climbed up. Looked for the rope and it came undone from the stand. Climbed down. Got rope and tied it to the stand. Climbed up. Now I'm ready!
