Supply and demand. Everything has gone up in price. Back when guns were cheap, people were still complaining that they cost too much. Don't like it, don't buy it. It does get a little annoying though seeing the same handful of guys running their own personal gun store and asking above the already inflated market value.

I have one of these with the original receipt that is around $500...imagine the increase from shelf prices on mint colt & winchesters made pre-1900's that get well into 6 figure for some models.

In 1964, minimum wage was $1.15/hr and the median annual income for the country was $6,000/year. So yeah, prices have gone up in the last 57 years, lol.

I'm from way back too. I have a Rem 550A that I bought used in '66 for $15. First Rem 788 I bought in '68 for $67 new. 22 shells were about 50 cents a box.
About 8 months ago I bought a new TC Compass II with threaded barrel that will shoot sub 1/2 moa groups for $279. The scope I used to kill beaucoup deer cost me $19.95 in around '67 or so.

Price building one. Factor in the lead time you’ll have to wait on. It’ll make the expensive used guns seem cheaper....

Paid $77 for mine at the Cuero Walmart early 1980’s. It was the demo flood model and they didn’t have a new one in the box to sell. So the gave me that one for 15% off. My first gun purchase, still got it and it still shoots good.

I bought 2 new Ruger 10/22's exactly 1 year ago in August and paid 200 and 420 with shipping at auction on Gunbroker. One was stainless and English Walnut the cheap one was Maple and blued. Not too crazy. I just bought my first house and paid 125k but I had to hunt for a couple years to find it. But yeah if you have the hots for a Colt Python or new Bronco I'm sorry for ya.

I bought a win 94. 30-30 at a garage sale in 70’s paid I think $150, needed money later on and sold to a close friend back then for the $150, as collateral and never bought it back

Guns and shooting has become a wealthy persons game now. Think about what things cost and how much disposable income you have for your leisure activities. I saw a meme that said"You want to flaunt your wealth a bit. Shoot 9mm at 3/4plywood"
Gun and ammo prices have not gotten crazy until the last 12-15 years. I was able to buy from a dealer a Winchester 94 Trapper large loop 44mag 1894-1994 centennial edition for $325 in 94. Winchesters are no longer made in the USA and the 94 and Mod 70 has always been an American favorite. Now the "JM" Marlins are commanding premiums. No one is making anyone pay more than they have to. Hyundai's and Bentley's both do 55mph.
The Axis Savage and the Blaser both shoot bullets accurately.

Bought my little brother a Rem 870 for his 16th B-day in 1972. Paid $49.95 for it new.
My Browning Citori White Lightening was $1100 new back when I bought it. Probably double that now.

Used gun prices are based on needs and wants. How bad does the seller need the money and how bad does the buyer want the gun. Sellers that need the money usually price them lower for a quick sale or will take less than asking price. Sellers that don’t need the money will let it ride until they get their price or keep it.
