Default Disappointed by Pappa's Bro's

Second time we've gone to Pappa's Brothers. Fantastic last time but I'm sorry to say I was disappointed this time.

If they had served me the steak my wife got I would have sent it back. It actually tasted to me like it had begun to spoil. The crab mac'n cheese had a strong fishy taste like it wasn't fresh either. They seated us under an air vent that was blowing at hurricane force and when I suggested we might want to move they said they'd turn it down instead and did but only for a couple minutes.

It wasn't all bad. My steak was very good just not $65 worth of amazing. The pino noir was fantastic. Wish I would have caught the name so could hunt that down.
We were celebrating our anniversary and they comp'd us a massive slice of cheesecake which was amazing.

Ruston Cattle Company in Ennis off of 45 was really good. We usually go to Texas Roadhouse in Mansfield for a "decent" steak and this place had much better quality. Maybe not same ambiance or nice as Pappa's but really good steak and comparable to higher end steakhouses.

Had this conversation with a guy in the food service industry just this past Sunday. Due to the increase in take out dinning restaurants are seeing their cost go up astronomically. Combine that with the increased wages that are being demanded by employees in this stimulus driven economy, a general lack of qualified candidates to hire, and we have the makings of a disaster. Restaurants are beginning to order lesser quality foods in-order to reduce costs any way they can.

Yep...a friend of mine is still ordering his usual top cut of steaks for his restaurant, and is losing roughly $10 per meal on the steak price increase alone. He is trying to hold out and not increase pricing, praying that things get back to normal...I'm afraid he might be wishing for something that isn't gonna happen.

Congrats on the occasion.

Pappas is the only place I havenít been let down. Hope that doesnít change. A recent anniversary dinner that was way overpriced made my wife and I have the same conversation about just going to Pappas Bros instead now and eating out less frequently. Seems the past two months just about every meal out has been disappointing.

Wow, we have never been disappointed there. I am sure if you share this thread with Mr. Chris Pappas and his team it will not be taken lightly. He is quite the gentleman and I consider him a friend of ours. Congratulations on the anniversary!

Congrats on the anniversary, I do not believe that is the norm for Papas, restaurants are struggling big time right now for a variety of reasons. Let them know, I am sure the owner would want to know.

My experience as well.
We had a waitress come over and offer to hold some friends fussy baby while we ate.
She did so graciously without any prompt.
Never had bad service, and never had bad food there.
1st time for everything I guess.

First off, congrats on the anniversary.

As for Papa Bros, it's definitely disappointing to hear about the negative experience. I have never been let down there before, but I have had not so great experiences at a couple other high-end places. Sometimes, a place has an off night...even the great places. Regardless, it's a tough pill to swallow given the premium prices and for a place like that, it's often a special occasion.

I would get online and send them a message regarding your experience. Most of these places maintain a feedback area on their website and I can tell you, the white table cloth places typically take your comments seriously. It's not unusual at all to receive a phone call back from a Manager and/or a gift card or two in the mail.

They usually do a great job but times are definitely more challenging. I run a restaurant and I would always recommend talking to a mgr while you are there so they can try and recover and make it a good experience. If you donít want to do that then try calling and asking for the GM the next day but avoid calling during lunch or dinner. Last would be send an email or call corporate. Emails and phone calls are usually handled by a guest relations team and they donít always have the care and concern a GM should have.

We are exactly the same way as your wife. But reaching out afterwards usually worth the trouble when done tactfully and with full transparency. As noted by another TBH poster, "white table cloth" operators are MUCH different when it comes to handling issues.

This is exactly why I don’t eat out. Better and cheaper at home. Plus I don’t have some 20yo with an attitude that expects me to leave him 20 bucks.

The wife and I donít do steakhouses anymore. I canít find one that makes a steak better than what we can do on the cast iron at home. The few steaks Iíve had in my life better than ours are from places way too expensive for us to justify going to again.

We started diving into the whole ďfoodieĒ thing 4 or 5 years ago, and now almost never eat out. Every time we did eat out something was cooked poorly, flavors sucked, or silverware/dishes came to the table dirty. We have about 25-30 recipes we rotate through at home that beat anything we used to eat out.

I even cooked my own birthday dinner this year. The wife made my cake in the middle of the rolling blackouts as well. I donít know how she got it done with the power going in and out. She had to assemble it in the dark right before dinner. Of course the lights came on just in for us to eat it... but not for cooking it...

Never had a bad dinner there. It is best to speak up when you get your dinner if there is an issue. If you don't get results, you can always deny payment on your credit card.

Said send Chris or the manager a note and I am sure they will be able to address any issues with your meal!

As said we have never had a bad meal @ the steak house
And the pappas family was very gracious to my family when my uncle died during the Covid-19 shut down and helped us with his wake @ the steak house

Order a lb of fajitas to go.
See how many to go containers are used.
They never come back. They aren't as cheap as you would think.

In restaurants the markup on food isn't as high as you would think.
Restaurants make the highest profit margins on booze.

Tough time to be in the restaurant biz these days.

Togo packaging is expensive and there have been major shortages but the big reason to go is more costly to the restaurant is no beverage sales with most to go orders....beverage sales are a huge part of the bottom line as mentioned by JHT.
