Default Alamo Precision TBH Build in the Future?

Is Alamo Precision still doing the TBH builds? If yes, when is next one?

I'd imagine if they do another one it will be announced shortly after the start of the new year.

Usually one every year and hopefully Robert and the crew wants to do it again. Build idea thread starts December/Jan and the order thread is Jan with a deadline at the end of the month or a week or 2 into Feb.

You should be able to use the search function (or Google). I'd search TBH Special (or something of that ilk).

I'm not so sure I'd buy another one. Mine had issues and should have never left their shop the way it shipped. I know they put out good rifles but I believe they got overwhelmed and shipped mine before checking to make sure it was right. To their credit, they did correct everything after multiple phone calls.

I’m not surprised one slipped through the cracks with the volume they produce. However, it’s good to see they made it right for you. I love the little 7/08 they built me last year. Can’t wait to hammer a Muley with it next week!

Everywhere will occasionally have one slip out that way. It shouldn't happen but the most important thing is they did what needed to be done to make it right. Glad to hear they got everything corrected for you. In my limited dealings with them, they seemed like a great company that stood behind their work. I would gladly buy another from them in the future.

I’d buy one of those on a TBH deal discount like they did last year.

I’ve got a Zeiss sitting in the box I’ve been needing a rifle for.

Normally I don’t have the glass but I double ordered a Zeiss V6 and just kept the xtra.

That’s a sweet rifle. I’ve got 2 rifles right in line with that unit (proof lite) and they are every bit $4500.+ The tbh special in my book should be a good value in an affordable package. I’ve been wanting a rimfire unit but I also know not many want to spend $$$ on a 22. I mean you can have it all but be prepared to spend some cash.

Want to add both rifles built before covid so no telling what they may be now.

Last year was a free for all, I believe he took $200 off anything that's on their production list.

But I hear ya, I usually have a pretty narrow idea of what trips my proverbial trigger.

I'm wanting in this year but again feel like I'm just a bit off of the masses.

2 types of builds would really interest me:

1. An ultralight mountain hunting rifle, possibly packable. I think this one may have happened somewhat recently or was at least in talks.

2. A rimfire build like Robert has showed us in the past.

The back pack pic is terrible quality but this is a 21 inch Maverick Light with a muzzle break and 30 ounce NF scope. It weighs 8 pounds on the nose.

Hunting gear and half a mule deer I was at 86 pounds. It carries really well in the pack with the muzzle riding just above head level.

I took the deer at 640 yards on the opposite hill side on the last morning in a light snow.Name: IMG_3388.jpg

It's a 7 saum in a long action due to the .195 free bore allowing the bullet to be seated above the neck shoulder junction.

I'm running a 180 hybrid over H1k and pushing it pretty hard at 2840. I developed the load in the summer heat and it's held up well including the mule deer shot at 8000 feet and Temps in the high 20s.

It's .5moa to 850.

Hey guys! I'm a little late getting this started this year......mostly because I wanted to see what what component availability would be like on a couple of ideas I had in mind. Then a couple of weeks ago we had a BIG wrench thrown in the works when Defiance had a MAJOR price increase without much warning. Unfortunately, that increase would make it pretty challenging to make it work well for the TBH deal. I'm working on some alternatives, but have nothing solid to offer at this point. In short, if we are able to do anything this year it will open up a little later than it has in the past.

Thanks,
Robert

Does this put the option of reworking a customer supplied 700 action back on the table?

price increase soon as soon as Bob Beck bought them out huh?..... I know materials increased but seems like they brought the tenacity and anTi up by $600-700 per action but only slightly increased the 'premium' actions.

I’ll tell y’all what it has done for me, that’s driving me to other brands. I’m a fan of Definace’s actions but for those prices there is as good or better, which I know both of you know.

Crazy times.... smh

The price increase on the Tenacity is the craziest one considering it’s supposed to be their “budget” action. You can dang near buy two Zermatt/Bighorn Origins for that price.

I just snagged an AnTi in stock a few weeks ago for a 6.5 PRC I’m helping my dad put together. I’m dang sure glad I got it when I did.

What about Stiller actions? Horizon bought them out and I would imagine they would make a deal on bulk actions.

Just what I get for dragging my feet and not grabbing another Tenacity while I could.
That jump will probably put the Remington 700 actions back on the table as an option for me in the future again. Before, unless you had the action for practically free by the time you gave it the full work over you were **** near at the price of a good custom action. Not anymore

Here’s the response from a Defiance rep on Sniper’s Hide concerning their price increase. Seems crazy to me that they supposedly wouldn’t make it through the month without this huge increase.

Quote:
Sigh... the amount of conjecture here never ceases to amaze me. I will interject some facts for those with earnest interest, and simply ignore those whose only interests are to make continued personal character attacks and draw attention to themselves. We are also not going to engage those attempting to tell us how they think it's done, when frankly they have extremely limited knowledge of manufacturing, operations, costs, nor exactly how much "market share" Defiance actually has/had, basing their assumptions on a poling of a demographic that makes up for <1% of the market. And don't bother looking up the ATF numbers, as they will only tell you how many actions were produced under the "Defiance" label, not the huge amount of variants we produce for others.

While we had absolutely not intended nor wanted to adjust pricing, upon investigation and discovery of operations and financial solvability, it became NECESSARY and IMMEDIATE to do so... and by immediate, there was question of whether Defiance could even exist beyond the month had we not acted quickly. For the last two weeks, we have had to call long standing clients, and many we even consider very close friends, to break the unfortunate news. It gave none of our team pleasure in doing so, from the guys on the phone to the new Owner who had to make some extremely, extremely hard decisions with a company he had just acquired. At one point, a choice had to be made to try and do the right thing by many of our smaller dealers and individual customers, which meant honoring a price, a price that at which Defiance would actually LOSE MONEY in continuing to honor that commitment, and we will. Others, who did not have confirmed orders, meaning there was no deposit placed (mostly dealers), were told the price would need adjusted accordingly.

We will not go into the details of everything discovered leading up to recent events and changes, because frankly no one is entitled to that information outside of Defiance, and it's not open for discussion. We are doing our best to continue on despite, and going forward into 2023 we are going to put our nose to the grindstone to try and build Defiance back into a financially healthy company. We understand there are many people angry with the situation, us and the Owner included. But this is where we are at, and it regrettably had to happen to keep the doors open. You can choose to agree or disagree, but the fact is had it not happened, both customers and dealers would have still been upset when the doors closed and Defiance ceased to exist. We recognize there are numerous great options out there for actions, and we are friends with many of those competitors. For some of them, it will undoubtedly increase their business, but we have already begun to see an increase in productions with some changes in operations, and we look at this as an opportunity to do better going forward.

All that said, Happy New Year's guys. Enjoy your weekend.

I was wondering why they sold. Apparently Bobs team didn’t due their due diligence prior to the purchase finalizing.

I don’t remember where but I heard they were having some financial issues prior to ole BB buying them. Seems like you said, that should have been examined before purchasing a company. Who knows maybe his intent was to pass the screwing along to the customer because they felt the actions would survive that much of a price increase...

Anybody hear the final price they sold for? I'm imagining it was a pretty big number, no excuse for such poor diligence and laughable to tell a story that Defiance was on the brink of insolvency when purchased. BB bought a premium brand and and made an aggressive move to get his investment back sooner. Capitalism at it's best, but will have many of us looking elsewhere for the time being. I think they're OK with that for now. It will also be funny when they have a price reduction down the road because of all the new "business practices" they put into place to get costs in line. I guess we'll see.

My biggest worry would be all the other action manufacturers following suit. I'd bet a few bucks they won't be far behind.

Man I’ve thought about that as well and hope that isn’t the case. I have a couple other brands in mind for builds that are on deck/in the hole but am curious to see how it plays out.

I still can’t believe a tenacity is costing 1600$. Unreal.

IMO that sounds like someone at Defiance trying to douse the flames more than being truthful about current operations at Defiance. If you can’t make a profit with a year + backlog at $1300/action then you probably ought to just close the doors.

That’s what I’m thinking. I have a really hard time believing they would buy out a company in that bad of shape. I expected a price increase to cut down on their ~18 month backlog, but definitely not to that extent. All the other action mfgs should love this.

It is entirely possible that the valuation of the company was misrepresented prior to the transaction, even with due diligence. It’s plausible that there were financial issues for some time, and could have been the driving factor in the sale of the company. Right or wrong, it happens all the time. Hopefully that’s not the case, and hopefully the reason for the increase is justified. At the end of the day, it’s a “for profit” business.

Sure it’s possible and may have been to an extent, but for it to be misrepresented to the point of having to close the doors within the month as they stated seems highly unlikely to me.

I’m not sure when the new owner took over, but I would imagine that if a company was in such dire straits that would’ve been made clearly obvious in the financial audit performed before purchasing.

Financial statements would have definitely been reviewed.

Cutting costs is the other side of the equation…
