    Added a Second Alfalfa Basket

Very happy with the first alfalfa basket we put on the lease last year so we added another yesterday. Holds 2 bales and lasts 2-4 weeks. Chain to a tree so it can be moved a little.

If we put the bale on the ground it’s gone in a few days. This slows consumption and keeps the deer out working on it longer.

I may try this basket method. A bale on the ground will last me two days tops.

          What wire did you use?

How did you build it? Bales last us about 3 days.

Took a section of 5’ hog panel and welded it in a cylinder then chain it high and low around a tree so it can move a little.

My deer won’t eat alfalfa, they don’t know that it’s food. Glad yours do.

Good look-n deer! I'ma gonna have to try one some day.

Seriously, I used alfalfa this season instead of corn for my public place. Hogs wouldn't mess with it, which is fine with me!

Anxious to try it at my stand in KS this year.

They seem to like it at the barn!

that's a great idea! I don't put alfalfa for the reasons everyone said. It gets scattered and only lasts a couple days.

I think it will give this a try.

I usually pull the first bale into flakes and drop them down in the basket to make it full to the sides. Then just drop the second bale in from the top half bale at a time. It sticks out a few inches but works it’s way down and apart as they eat.
