Earlier this spring my uncle passed down the cooker that my grandpa and dad had built 4 decades ago to me as a gift. Honestly it was a little worse for wear after not being used in 10 years.
After some new tires installed we towed it back to my house for some upgrades. First repair was the the bottom hatch door that was missing.
Next was several noticeable holes in the firebox end of the pit, a 1/3 section of 30" pipe made a nice "diaper" to cover the damaged areas.
The tabletop had rotted almost entirely away and rather going back with wood to be placed sometime in the future, I opted for c purlins covered with a sheet of 22 gauge galvalum sheet metal.
A new coat of paint, mooncaps, K3 brand (3 generations of Keck's), and lasered name plate on the stack finished my upgrades. I think my grandpa would have been proud of the finished product!
