I killed my first Fannin county buck this past weekend. My Grandfather just purchased this property around September of this year, so It was quite a fire drill trying to get everything set up for deer season. We have a highline easement that runs through the back portion of the property for roughly 700 yards. It makes for a great spot to sit during the rut, due to the high visibility, heavy timber and creek bottom that runs through it. He was the third legal buck that came out chasing Saturday morning. He was on a full blown sprint when he came out of the timber. He slowed down to a trot right before he made it to the otherside of the timber before I shot him. I shot him with a Tikka T3X 300 win mag with a 200 grain Hornady ELD-X. I'm going to put a tape on him this evening, but I'm guessing he will score in the high 140's. If he breaks 143, he will be my largest free range whitetail.
