    hippo harvest

    Looks like Josh Bowmar just killed a hippo with a 550-590gr arrow.

    That is what Kinetic energy will do for you. It was listed to be around 125ft-lbs.

    You're making my head spin bud! Now its kinetic energy over momentum/high FOC? Have I missed something, lol?

      I would be curious what the bow specs are. That arrow would have to be going 310fps+ on the low end I would imagine to get that kind of KE.

        But was it a pass through?

              95 lbs 550 grain arrow with 125+ KE.

              recommendation from the Ashby foundation is 1000 to 1250gr

                I got into physics about 2 years ago. haha.

                Maybe you should come to the house. It's been a long time.

                    560 grain arrow would need to travel at 320fps to generate 125# kenetic energy.

                        That’s because the average person doesn’t shoot a 95lb bow at 30”+ DL.
                        1000-1250gr is recommended because that is what will get the average shooter and bow to the KE or momentum needed for sufficient penetration.

                        To get a 550 grain arrow to 125+ KE it has to be blazing fast, a dang laser beam!

                          I have seen two different posts about it.

                          1= 90lb bow 590gr
                          2= 95lb bow 550gr. 125ke

                          a 550gr at 125ke is 320fps as you stated. A 345ibo bow at 30" with 95lb limbs can do 320fps.

                          He was shooting a pse evl. Not sure how he got 95lb limbs for that bow, but depending on what mod he was using he could have got 125ft-lb of energy.

                          KE is what gave him this ability. If you had enough KE, a bow that could handle a 350gr arrow, and a 350gr arrow that could handle that amount of KE, it too could do the job. we just don't have the ability to get there. We are very limited in what we can do. Now, crossbows do.
