man people are brave this year. Went to look at an old spot I hunted and saw two pop up blinds in the open not brushed in and easy to see and find. Not very smart. Someone can steal them with ease and park rangers will gind them quick. Atleast I know to stay away from that spot

Maybe new to hunting, or first timers on this lake, or young, or all three.

Rangers will be making a couple more sweeps for gear before the season starts.

I finally got all my parts for my outboard. VST pumps ain't cheap, and take longer to get in during covid days! And finished getting everything installed today. Even test ran it in the driveway. Just need to do an on-the-water test now. And buy a whole bunch more steel shot!

Are you guys having better luck in the AM or PM or all throughout the day? Public land I was able to leave stands so sneaking in during AM was easy. Struggling to find quiet ways in and ease of setting up a blind in dark.

Dale, these two lakes won't let you leave stands up. Gotta packem in and out same day. I've seen the rangers before, driving around mid day collecting stands and blinds that people left up during their "lunch break". Most of the time, they do a stand sweep mid week. But do check on the weekends once in a while. Check the rules. They classify it as "Abandoned equipment". They usually have a ton of equipment at the end of the year, that gets sent to the scrap yard. They also have a Mule with a cutting rig on the back for heavy chains and such. They also check the parking lots for parking permits while people are out. And will sometimes leave a "Thank You" note if you have your parking permit displayed. And leave another kind of note if you don't.

As to deer movement, that varies through the season. I've killed them at all times of the day.

I’m new to public hunting and bow hunting this year been rifle hunting since the ‘70s. I’ve been baiting 2 places once a week for 2 months now. I took my climbing tree stand out yesterday evening and sat for 3 hours had 4 different does come in and obviously smelt me they snorted several times while running off. The mosquitos are horrible so I used a thermocell with earth sent pads and used raccoon urine for cover sent. Does anyone else use thermocell and does it really not spook dear like it claims?

Just saw where Grandbury is only releasing 97 cfs! Yeah! PK is releasing 100 cfs. They may be closing them down soon.

W lake is .29 feet below normal.

A lake is .36 feet below normal.

Good luck to all. I haven't even scouted yet. I drew a Big Lake Bottom hunt this weekend so I'm going there first. I like to give the competition a head start anyway .

Man, there are lots of hogs out there this year. I had a group of 4 walk up on me while scouting. Also, almost stepped on a rattler... so be extra careful when out hunting everyone.

Hogs? That's what I've been hearing, lots of hogs this year. I'd rather hunt hogs than deer anyway.

The fish are biting, and there's hogs to be kill-t. Gotta go!

Plenty of both mike. But if you’re more concerned with hogs go ahead and dm me your most productive deer spots and I’ll dm you my favourite hog spots.

Oh, I might have a hog spot or three. Just take alook at my albums in my profile named Few Public critters.

The fish are biting, and there's hogs to be kill-t. Gotta go!

I don't mind hogs! But I definitely want to see some deer too. Best of both. Limited season for deer. Not so much for hogs...

I ran out of hog due to freezer going out. Luckily, it didn't go completely bad, I just had to grill all of the back straps, and eat them for a week. I later learned from a "Meat Eater" article, that I could've refroze them, since they never were room temp. They were just barely dethawed.

I agree with pigs being everywhere! I was covered up with them on my last scouting trip.

They are just extras when deer hunting. They make some pretty good sausage anyway.

Same here. They weren't really even phased by me either. They saw me... and then just kind of walked away, but still hung out in the thick brush, just waiting on me to leave.

My first year hunting at lake A and W.
Got one question about the rules. I don’t really see anything about wearing orange while scouting. Do you Have to wear orange while scouting, or you don’t have to?

I know you wear orange while you are walking around to your Hunting spot.

It is suggested. But not mandatory if you're not carrying a weapon. Lots of hikers and horse people out there.

Found a couple new spots to try last weekend and figured out how hard it can be to cross the lake in a good wind with only myself in the canoe.

Wife and I are sighted in, excited to be back in the woods

I have hunted hogs on the lake before, and on a windy day.... it sounds like a day on the beach. Whitney definitely whitecaps. Not sure that I would be brave enough to take it on a canoe... but I guess it just depends on where you put in, and how far the paddle is. Props to you sir!!! Some of the other guys here are more familiar with the lake and may have some pointers, as I have never been on it with a boat either. Just my observations from the land.

I've been in a 3 foot chop on the upper end 4 times. That was in 13 and 14 foot boats. And once in a 16 footer. It's a scary situation. And been in a 3.5 foot chop twice. When your dog looks at you like "We gonna make it back?", you know it's bad.

The wind can pick that water up and make it terrible. The more room it has to do it, the worse it can get.

The fish are biting, and there's hogs to be kill-t. Gotta go!

Specially a south or North wind. Has all that space to push water upriver or down. Even in my 18 footer it can get hairy. Good luck to all tomorrow. I'm giving you a two week head start so don't waste it.

Do folks hunt all day or call it around 10am or 11am?

Planning on visiting the area this weekend, but don't want to mess up someone morning hunt.

I usually don't quit for lunch until 11:30 minimum before heading back. I've killed deer as late as 10:50. And have seen them moving at 11:15. I've been known to stay in a tree from before sun up to after sun down too. I've gone in as early as 1:30AM on opening morning, climbed my tree, and just slept there till it got light out or people started walking in.

I always try to be first in and last out.

Since people are saying there seems to be an increase of hogs this year, I was wondering if they are mostly around Lake A, or Lake W?

well 80 pounds of corn in two spots last Saturday is gone today. Got one spot corned and ready for the morning. No sign of pigs all deer scat. Gonna be nice with the temps but I sure don't like the moon this bright. Gonna have to take a gallon zip lock of corn just in case. Good luck everyone. Be safe and be courteous of others.
