What is going on here and why?

New one for me. What causes this? Will his right side drop next year? Will he eventually drop his right side this year and just grow out his left side? So many questions, so little knowledge.

        Kind of half-hardedly maybe.

I have never seen that on axis or whitetail.

I've never seen this happen on any antlered deer either. Time to start googling.

Anything is possible. Damage during velvet, pedicle damage, nutrition, skull damage during rut. I'd personally watch it over time to see if anything changes during growth next time and see what happens.

He finally dropped the other about 2 weeks ago. Left side 3/4s grown out right side just a big blob at his base.

That’s wild. I’ve watched a lot of axis (and just antlered deer in general) but I’ve never seen anything like that. I wonder if it’ll work itself out this next time he goes to shed his antlers.

He will shed. Next year probably be fine I'm guessing he just damaged it
