As if I don't own every lure there is to buy, I decided to start making my own. So far so good.

I'm no expert, you should see see the pile of mistakes. I watched a lot of Youtube videos, mostly by Chris Jones at Worlds Worst Fishing. Some are injection molded and some are open poured. I've been catching a lot of redfish on em so far. I tried for years to get a lure maker to to do some of the black and white and no one would do it. I've made several of my favorite colors also. Thanks for the kind words. Kevin.

I dabbled some a while back. Slap a catchy name for the lures and your colors and you can sell them. The crazier the name the better. Lol

These are mine all mine haha. They help my addiction. I'll post a pick later of the 7'' paddle tail I made for big trout. If it works I'm a genius.

Looks just as good as store bought. Looks like ur on the right track. Like both of the colors on those. U could easily sell them.like stated above, put a crazy catchy name on em and they'll go.

Very nice. Im digging the black/white combo.
Did you have the molds made, buy them online, or make them yourself? Everything came out really nice. |

I bought an injector off Amazon for $29. The best Plastisol I found is from Dead on Plastics. I use the saltwater blend for the ones pictured. I use a worm blend for Senko style worms I bass fish with. The molds can get expensive. I have a 4 cavity Bass Assassin style mold and a 4 cavity Senko mold from Do-It molds. They're about $38 each. The smaller paddle tails and shrimp tails are single cavity molds from Amazon that cost about $25 each. The bigger paddle tails are open pour molds from Stankx Bait Company. They cost about $21. It's kinda time consuming so you need multi cavity molds to make a living at it, and they're very expensive. I just do it to have something different than every one else. Also it's pretty cool to make a lure and outsmart a fish with it.

In the first picture you posted, the bait in the middle looks a lot like a Kelly Wiggler, and I can dig it! Can you post pictures of the process? Baits look professional!

I'm not real good at posting pictures, sorry. Look on youtube for videos from Worlds Worst Fishing. He has a bait company and shows how to do all of it. The shrimp tail is a little bigger than a Kelley Wiggler but it was the best looking shrimp tail mold I could find. It's by - best_nj soft plastic lures. It only makes one at a time so you inject it with white, open the mold and cut the tail off. Leave it in the mold and shoot the red in. I hope this helps

When you make them yourself they can be as hard or soft as you like. Harder has less action though. You buy different grades of Plastisol and can add hardened or softener to it. I tried making some molds with plaster of paris and failed badly. I'm going to try silicone next.

![]() What color/brand is the "red" colorant you used in the first picture and does it bleed onto the white?? Last edited by REDGUN; 01-22-2020 at 03:04 PM. |

It's from Dead On Plastics. It doesn't bleed at all. Their colors are very thick, it doesn't take a lot. I use open pour silicone now but I'd like to make some different molds.

These are my 7" long paddle tails. I'm going to try them for big trout. I don't think we throw big enough lures for upper end trout. They can eat up to a third of their body length. I may be crazy, but maybe not.

These are some of the molds I use. I'm trying to figure out how to make them myself. I'm working on some original designs to make a master form and then original molds. Right now I'm buying my molds, I've failed badly at making them. The silicone molds I got from Stankz bait company.

I use to make my molds with Fiberglass resin. I would glue the worm in the bottom of a Pyrex dish and then pour the resin over it. If you didn't glue it the worm down it would float up. Then I would plane the mold down to about half way, insert a new worm and pour more resin to make the second half. After I got one like I wanted, I could cast rubber around that and make as many duplicate molds as I wanted. I lost interest in it but I still have a ton of that stuff somewhere in my barn.

A few years ago when Brown Lures first came out they made a Devil Eye that was black and orange. It was called El Diablo. I caught a lot of trout on those things. They stopped making it for some reason. I asked them about bringing them back, they weren't interested. Well this is why I roll my own.
