Jerry Hill Broadhead Review
I had to try them out, because they are so cool looking.
Jerry sent me a box of three to play with.
He also sent me a real nice pocket size broadhead sharpener.
They weigh: 194.2 gr / 194.8 gr / 195.0 gr
That's a real good weight tolerance, but quite a bit heavier, than the 175 gr I am used to using.
The Overall combined weight of broadheads, and inserts/ouserts of my Bishop heads is 235 gr.
But, with a little creative adapter building I got the Jerry Hill broadhead/inert/outsert combined weight all matched up to that 235 gr.
I used short screw point adapters, and turned them all down to 8/32 screw size, which fits perfectly snug "inside" my shafts for glue in inserts.
Then I cut 1" pieces of 1916 aluminum arrow shaft for an outside footing.
Time to shoot them:
They shoot great / fly perfect.
When I first started out shooting them, they were all three impacting about 6" low at 20 yards, but the left/right line was right in there with the Bishop heads, and field points.
I couldn't figure out why the low, until I had a "well duh" moment.
Yeah, I'm an aimer, and the JH arrows are 1-1/8" longer end to end, than my other arrows, so when shooting off the tip, my eye was making me hold the JH's lower in order to look the same on target as my other arrows.
No biggie. I just aimed higher, until I got used to looking at the end of the ferrule, and started aiming off of it.
After getting the aiming all worked out:
JH - 1 - 20 yards
JH - 2 - 20 yards
JH - 3 - 20 yards
Then I threw in a 40 yarder with JH - 1 just to see.
I'm a little rusty at that distance.
They sharpen up real nice too, and are all sharpened up shaving sharp, and in the quiver.
I'll be killing something with these sometime very soon I hope.
