Things to do in Baton Rouge

The wife and I are taking a small vacation next Friday - Sunday to Baton Rouge to watch our Ags BTHO lsu. We are leaving on Friday morning and should be there around Friday afternoon.

What are some things to do on Friday night and Saturday leading up to the game at 6 pm? We plan on eating, boozing, exercising (running), and seeing the sites. What and where? Thanks for the input. Want to stay pretty close to Baton Rouge area and would like to do things other than casinos.

Just realized you said running in it. You can run along the levee on river road or run around the lakes near campus. I believe the larger lake is 3-4 miles and the smaller is about 1-2, If you do them both its 5-6 miles.

Worth a walk around campus. The baseball facilities are pretty cool and you can go the the tiger.

There is a neat old plantation out Southwest of town. We stayed out there and it was really cool but traffic can be a bear either way on a game weekend.

          Good luck, BTHO LSU

Eat at Parrain’s is about the best thing they’ve got to offer. Other than that just try to avoid the locals and try not to get murdered. It’s a real craphole.

Really? I did read the laws about concealed handguns, so I will have mine with me, but is Baton Rouge that bad?

Baton Rouge is not that bad......Guy is an idiot and probably has never been there. Yea, if you drive through the ghetto looking for trouble at night, you can find it. Just like any other decent sized town in America. This time of year is really pretty up around St. Francisville (1 hr north of BR). Pretty trees, plantations etc. Running the lakes is good as well. I haven't been to the new L'auberge in BR but I am sure it is nice.

I live in Baton Rouge. It's fine, you'll have a blast. Like anywhere, there are bad parts of town. You won't be around it.
When you get in on Friday go eat at Roberto's on River Road in Sunshine. Get there late afternoon before the crowd gets there. It's a nice 20-30 drive from LSU. When you leave Roberto's go to Istrouma Brewing (not far from Roberto's) and drink a beer and listen to music. On Saturday, go eat breakfast at Louie's near LSU and then party with the tailgaters all day.

Eat at Little Village Italian restaurant on 3rd street. Order the seafood stuffed filet. You’re welcome!

The St. Francisville and Little Village suggestions are all great.

Since you hunt you'd love the St. Francisville area. Great deer hunting and beautiful hardwoods.

Since you mentioned running, take a jog around University lake. There will be plenty of people doing the same. Mike's enclosure is just outside the stadium so I'd go give that a look before the game. Always cool to see him wrestling with his caretakers. I'd take a walk through campus early in the day. The tailgating scene throughout campus is insane. The quad and parade grounds are beautiful although much better in spring. For food, I'd recommend Louie's for sure.
