    Frozen deer meat?

I have some deer meat in the freezer that a neighbor gave me. Some steaks that are vacuum packed and some ground in the packaging like breakfast sausage comes in. Problem is, I can't remember how long it has been in there. I think about 2 years maybe 3. Y'all reckon its still good? Theres no freezer burn that I can tell.

As long as it isn't freezer burned we will eat it.

You're fine, defrost it and give it a sniff if you want to be sure. Even if it's freezer burned you can just trim off the burn and go.

I found some elk steaks in the back of the freezer from 2016 two weeks ago. We ate them and tasted just like they normally do. Done this a many of times as packages get lost here and there and we don’t find them for quite some time.

                Thaw it and smell it.

Vacuum packing has brought a whole new life to frozen meat... If it's still sealed and the packaging is still tight, It will be good as fresh. If you have a sous vide machine, take it out the freezer and put in the sous vide at 130 degrees for about 3 hours at temperature. Then take it to the grill or a very hot iron skillet and seer it quickly. It will be perfect!! Throw some seasoning on it before you seer it. You won't believe how well that works... Freezer to Sous Vide to Table... Can't beat it!

                          This.
If it's been frozen the whole time, and was good when you froze it, no need to smell it, it's good.
