Guten Tag....
Performance of the Lipizzans at Spanish Riding School is a must see. Or, basically anything at the Spanish Riding School is awesome.
The various markets are great.
Classical concert at St. Peters Church.
Be prepared to see most women wearing skirts and dresses rather than pants.
Once back in the USA you will realize what a dump our cities are compared to cities like Vienna.
Enjoy the great Cafe' experience! Great desserts, coffees, and wines.... And, don't forget about the smoked ham hocks!!!Last edited by Bayouboy; 09-27-2022, 12:41 PM.

Good advice given already
Even if you can’t get tickets to any Spanish riding school performances, they also sell tickets to the workouts and trainings. If you miss those, you can still see the horses in the stables from the street for free.
A good book to read on the plane before hand is “the perfect horse” by Elizabeth letts
It’s a fascinating read on the history of the Lipizzaners and how they came to be in Vienna, how the Nazis confiscated them to make the perfect horse for their perfect race, and ultimately how close they came to being fed to the Russians at the end of the war without our intervention.
When I was in Vienna (late September or early October, many years ago) I was fortunate enough to watch the Vienna philharmonic orchestra. Played a night of Mozart and Strauss. They even had a Stradivarius violin that was protected by armed security guards when it wasn’t being played. Well worth the 50 euro if they’re still playing.
As mentioned already, schoenbrunn palace and the gardens are pretty neat.
A very quick day trip is jumping over the Danube and going to Bratislava, in Slovakia. It is not far from Vienna. The euro goes a long way there. A lot of neat stuff to see there. They’re still trying to shake the iron curtain feel. Everyone we met in Bratislava was super friendly. The beers, coffee with liquor, and food we ate was all great and about 1/4 to 1/3 of the price of the same in Vienna
Enjoy it, hope you post up here how your trip turns out…..

I would be trying to see if I could pull off a hunting trip, while there. I would love to go to Austria, if I ever make it there, I want to do some hunting. Go see the beautiful countryside, while hunting for red stag. Roe deer or Russian boar, or hairs more likely would be more in my budget. But I would be dreaming of a red stag hunt. Then a fishing trip after the hunt is over. Then spend a week sight seeing. Yes, this is a fantasy, ain't ever going to happen. I would love to spend a month in Austria and then Germany. It would be nice to figure out what part of Germany my family came from, then maybe try to track down some relatives, I am sure that part would be a waste of time, but maybe not.
You should be able to get to try a lot of different very good beers. Austria and some parts of Germany, I would love to see.
Should be a great trip, have fun, make the most of it.
