    Custom rattling horns

Now that we have so much down time, I’m going to try my hand at making some nice, custom rattling horns.

    My goals are:
    Stain some really nice sets
    Figure out leather grips
    Leather lanyard
    Possibly engrave my initials

Here are pics of one horn I did yesterday and one I’m working on today:

I doubt it. You might want to wait and see the final product. Might not be worth anything!

What is it you are using to wrap them where you place your hands?

I bought 2 different leather weave products off of EBay. One is a flat weave that I am trying on the grips. Using contact cement to attach. We will see how that works.
The other is a round weave that I’ll use as the lanyard.

                        1st set

                        1st set done. (Maybe)

The second horn of this set still had traces of velvet on it. That made things complicated. When staining, the “dirty “ part would stain darker. I decided to sand all that off. Now I can’t get the horn dark enough to match the 1st one.

The grip on the second one was hard to get uniform and round, so the leather weave is harder to get glued.

I’ll let it cure overnight and see if I need to apply more contact cement.

What size are you using? It’s kinda hard to tell by the photos. It looks like 5mm and 10mm are available.

5mm. I think larger would be better.
