Cedar glider

I am going to attempt to make this pile of wood into this glider. I am not a carpenter, just playing onehttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c667dc67bc.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...38da142365.jpg
I built that one for my kids. Now my Honey wants one [emoji2] I just bought a wood lathe to play with, but she wants her glider first. She knows if I open the lathe I would play with it instead. So, here goes

Fantastic.

Beardedbuck 02-07-2021 09:12 AM

Looks cool. I bet the outcome with the use of the cedar will be stellar! Are you gonna clear coat it for a natural look or put a little stain to enhance it some?

bps3040 02-07-2021 09:32 AM

Start with base. Ripped to length. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ac4d82b593.jpg
A few half laps and a few dado cutshttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9e4f7bd5df.jpg
Good fithttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...27db5c4f39.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...df0fc11fce.jpg
Time to glue and screwhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...db7d8aa28f.jpg
Time to start on the end frames

Lol, that is my wood lathe, in the box, that I am not allowed to open until I finish the glider [emoji3]

Looking good! I'll be watching for the finish.

Save your thicker cut offs of cedar to use with your lathe.

bps3040 02-07-2021 02:49 PM

Cut out the end frame components. Had to use dado blade to make a few rabbet cutshttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...bc322b4f71.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e88c20ecba.jpg
Square it uphttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e8b8c37ffd.jpg
Glue and screw time. Seat frame is next

Great job.

Tsnow 02-08-2021 02:57 PM

Nice, following.

bps3040 02-08-2021 03:25 PM

Ripped to length. Had to use dado blades again. I used band saw to cut the curve of the seat inhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...875f7e09b4.jpg

Gluing and screwing, as always make sure to square it uphttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6c1e0526fb.jpg

I believe you are more of a carpenter than you think...Good job so far!!

bobc 02-08-2021 04:28 PM

You look pretty handy at the carpentry stuff, if you ask me. Following.

3ChordTruth 02-08-2021 07:32 PM

Following this nice project, thanks for the good pics along the way.

bps3040 02-08-2021 07:46 PM

Thanks. Cut the seat slats to size. Had to router 1/4” round overs on each side. Except front edge, used 1/2” round over on that. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e682dc8bee.jpg
Time to glue and screw. I add a little glue under each slat, don’t know if it is needed [emoji2369], but feels tighter finish to me https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...370ef9e68c.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8693a82003.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...270cb4beb8.jpg

Time to start backrest. It has a lot of cuts.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3075f88caa.jpg
Cut to length, but now I have cut the slight radius on each one

Sorry, this is put on hold. The house caught fire today and that part of garage was pretty screwed up. Could use a prayer or two. Thanks

Dang it man, sorry to hear this. I spent countless hours in my grandpa’s shop while he made gliders and benches. It was his hobby after retirement and great memories. Was so happy to see your thread and follow along. I hope it’s not too bad. [emoji120]

Thanks, We are blessed to have our kids within a couple miles. We were blessed it happened during day and not at night. My SIL, daughter and 2 grandkids slept in that room. So, I thank God for thathttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...851e0fb2ab.jpg

Thank you so much. We appreciate it! We are blessed to come out of it like we did. God truly blessed us having occur during the day, otherwise my daughter , SIL, and 2 grandkids would have died. The rest is small$&$@ compared to that.
