Landowners, Why Not More Cut-Rate Doe/Cull Hunts?

I've experienced massive numbers of deer in West and South of the Metroplex, seems like they are out of control in some areas... To those of you that own land or have a lease that you can sublease out to a day hunter & have deer numbers that are far too big, why don't you sell more super cheap hunts to take out the deer overgrowth? Do you just do it yourself because finding responsible, trustworthy hunters at low rates is too hard?

Not worth the hassle for cheap i imagine. That and not wanting strangers on their place.

How do you know the deer ratio of the metroplex?

Why would I, as a land owner, want to sale cheap hunts and chance the liability. I have no idea if you or your kid know anything about hunting. That's one of the reasons not many people offer them.

I have enough friends that I trust than to hassle with a few hundred bucks and a stranger.

I used to let people hunt and help kill does, but you have to ride herd on them. Too much trouble.

                Minimal reward for multiple risks.

I don't. These are simple armchair observations and economics are a hobby of mine.

Most of these responses are spot on. Getting my own place was a lifelong dream come true and took years of hard work and saving. Once I got the place, I’ve put countless hours of work into my place. Selling a few day hunts each year hasn’t even crossed my mind, even though we need to take more does. I’d rather have friends and their kids come out for a good experience rather than selling a hunt to a stranger.

Not worth the time and the hassle to deal with a stranger for minimum income. If some does need to be shot there are plenty of friends and family that would like a crack at one

Some of us do sell "cheap" cull hunts. But that word is subjective.

I used to sell doe hunts years ago but for the most part it was not worth my time. We have to kill a certain number every year and I used to think--heck, I'll sell these things instead of me shooting them for nothing. With VERY few exceptions, I found I could kill more does by myself (usually a lot more) in a weekend than the paying doe hunters. It wasn't even worth my gas to deal with it.

Cause they don't know a doe from a nubbin buck.

Some good comments above. For me, any time I’m at the ranch during season I’m hunting my target buck, and taking time to put others in the right stand, etc would defeat the purpose. Shooting specific culls is tough for even those that know what they look like on the hoof. Lastly, in most instances you have to house them. Lots of challenges for a married guy with kids that wants to hit hard and spend time with family.
