    Techies - Good iPad?

I'm behind the times. Quick search and I saw prices all over the place from $200 to well over $1,000

Just need an iPad (or similar) the wife and I can play a few games on and maybe surf the web through a hotspot while traveling. Won't play any real gaming games, just simple app games.

What's a decent one I should look at?

Last one we had was 16G This one is 64G I'd assume that should be enough? Anything else to think about?

Be sure to get the wifi and cellular model. You probably know this but you did say you were behind the times.

Cellular is another phone. You can get watches, pads, etc., that have their own phone number and it’s just like your cell phone. I have an iPhone, an iPad and an Apple Watch that all have their own phone number.

The benefit is that you could use one if you lose the other or break one in an emergency. Another benefit is that you could use the iPad if you were out of range of any Wi-Fi such as traveling on the road. You could be making a cross country trip on the highway which has no Wi-Fi but with cellular (its own phone number), she could be playing games, browsing the Internet, buying ( ) things on Amazon, etc.

The drawback is naturally, you have to pay for another phone line. The exception is my Apple Watch which is only $10 for its phone number. On family type plans it might be another $20 a month for the additional phone number.

In a nutshell, cellular basically makes your iPad another cell phone.

I recently got the iPad Pro with the pencil and a nice keyboard setup. It has replaced my laptop 100% and desktop 95%. Also use it for what you describe. It’s become my go to device.

Another thing about the iPad with with cellular capability is the built in gps. You don’t have to activate the cellular plan to use gps.

Also, the last one I had with cellular capability, you could turn on and off the data month by month with no penalties.

That might be an important point. Just because a device is cellular capable, it does not mean you have to use it. If a person likes to travel a lot this summer, they can activate the plan for three months and travel and then turn it off for the rest of the year.

I had my Apple Watch 6 for a few months before I pried $10 a month out of my pocket to activate it.

I just recently updated from an Ipad2 to a new IPad 10.2 Gen9, 64GB. Wifi only. I had the Ipad2 since it came out in 2011, I think. Never have missed not having cell service. Heck, I have a IPhone for cell service with a hot spot. Just saying........cC

Why an iPad and not an android? Half the price and way more functionality.

Just… no. And this comes from a guy that has built 100k+ android devices.

Get a standard iPad and you will be happy.

From what your stated used is, no need for a pro or keyboard. Just get a latest gen standard iPad.

If you need more accessories after that, let your usage tell you.

For cellular, I just tether to my iPhone when i need cellular data. No sense in having an extra data plan anymore.

                              Following.

I am about to snag one for work. Debating between the Air and Pro but looks like the air can do 95% of what the pro does and I am not downloading or processing huge documents/programs.

They seem to handy not to have and utilize between employees for notes/inspections/sheets etc
