    Persimmon Trees

Does anyone have permission trees for the wildlife/deer? I just planted two trees to see how the deer take to them but, everything I’ve read makes it seem like it’s a northern thing.

My deer love them. Coons get a lot too but after the first frost, the deer just mop up what I dont get. They really like them.

Better than acorns just don’t last very long because everything eats them.

Have a couple of Fuyu persimmon trees in the backyard in town. Have to harvest before first freeze or pick and trick in the freezer. Have thought about transplanting to some family property.

Yes, have several on my property they are a deer and coyote magnet. Only problem is most of them drop fruit too early. All the coyote scat I see from sept-oct is full of persimmon seeds.

Man I hope you’re just an isolated situation with the coyotes, that’s the last thing I need. I’m already trying to hammer them now as there’s a lot of them around and I’m looking at bringing some Blackbuck to my place.

I've got lots of native black texas persimmons. Deer love them. I've tried them but they aren't like the orange persimmons in north Texas

Would not plant any around here as they are common (orange eastern variety). Deer will eat them but coyotes seem to love them. Have found coyote scat with seeds in places that I don't know of any trees for a long ways.

We have a bunch of wild ones in Collin county and the deer love then. They’re ripe right now.

Some of my persimmons are just ripe at this time, some were ripe about 2 weeks ago. None are in a good hunting spot, more of a nighttime destination for coons, coyotes, pigs, and deer.

Only female persimmons produce fruit so you will want to plant several trees.

Great tree to plant. You can buy female only trees. I was showing a property in Oklahoma last week and it had hundreds of persimmons loaded with fruit.

have wild ones producing on my land and have hunted around several groves on public land but never saw deer in them. I would've thought they would but its more of a hog thing from what I've seen.

Did not know that...Is it because they graft them? Where can you buy female only trees online? You would still need some males to help with pollination but the idea of having several females to, to one male tree sounds like a plan.
