I got picked as well for jan 2022, I heard it's a good spot, never done public land hunting before, much less with a bow, this will be my first year doing both.
I was picked for the 11/11-11/14 hunt, but I’m gonna have to bless a 2nd Drawing dude. Honestly, I applied for this hunt just to get a bonus point and hopped I wouldn’t get picked! I’m doing a backpack bear hunt in Arkansas later this month so I need to save my PTO and money for that trip.
My wife and I drew drew 12-9 it’ll be my first time chasing nilgai also do you use your own deer tags or do they provide you with there own tags like WMAs do ?

Drawn for the 12/16-19 hunt. Never been, so open to all advice. Driving from League City.
Nice, i'm coming from the same area (Clear Lake) but the week before.
I've read through the previous years threads and there's some good info there. I get the impression the terrain may be tough for spot and stalk...finding a game trail and waiting it out all day might be the play.
For anyone who has been there before - is it worth trying to haul in a tripod to gain a vantage point? Or any other suggestions on gear that might be useful? Much appreciated
I drew the gun hunt last year and 2 of the 3 of us killed nilgai. The 3rd had opportunities, but couldn't seal the deal. Access is fairly easy from the county roads as long as they mow the fire breaks. The fire breaks meander throughout the property and make it easy to get around. A tripod would be helpful to see into the brush, but not necessary. All depends on how mobile you want to be. We all just set in chairs/stools and concealed ourselves. Nilgai are by far the most weary animals I have ever hunted and they didn't stick around to try to figure out what was going on. Be ready to shoot when the opportunity presents itself. Go scout during the week leading up to your hunt. You have 4 days to scout. Find well used trails with fresh dung piles and hunt that area. We found sign everywhere and saw nilgai everywhere. Bow hunting will be much tougher than gun hunting, obviously. I did not ever have a nilgai within bow range. If bow hunting, I would find a heavily used trail and set up on that to ambush them. The brush this year is much thicker and taller than it was last year. I hope this helps some. Just get out there and you'll figure it out. It is super fun hunting! Good luck.
