    arrow building- Help DFW

so I made a mistake when ordering my 22" bolts - partly because i'd looked at dozens of options and clicked the buy now at 2:00 am. I thought what i ordered was fully assembled, but in fact is not.

no inserts, no vanes, no nocks installed at all.

i haven't built an arrow since the easton xx75 aluminum were hot stuff back in the day.

what is a ballpark figure to have a dozen bolts fletched, nocked and inserts in (including purchasing the fletchings) at an archery shop?

I'm trying to get my 9 year old into bowhunting/crossbow for deer this year and the budget is just about blown.

Bad news but most shops are so busy this time of year they aren’t even offering fletching services. Even if they offered it, it is going to be so much more than you want to pay. You’d be better off trying to return the bolts or exchange them for what you need.

All I can say is I live in the DFW area and I’ve heard that same speech at two area bow shops about not having time to fletch right now.

One shop couldn’t even find time to cut a half dozen arrows for me when I left them with them for two days. Maybe muddyfuzzy has a helpful response that he can contribute.

called a local shop and they farm out fletching now since they are so busy. around 50 bucks to do it.

was able to work a deal with the shop i ordered from for a complete set already set up, and i return the blanks back to them. cost me $29.00 for the assembly...not bad

When I had my own shop, I would go in a couple hours early to refletch shafts for customers. I understand that most shops are busy, and employees won’t do that. Mom and Pop shops that understand that the busy season requires extra time to provide services that can’t be done in an 8-5 timeframe are getting fewer and harder to find.

Since the above advice has only focused on fletching…

I’ll address the rest but from a shop perspective.

We won’t have your inserts in stock.(and likely nobody will). I doubt I’d have your nocks in stock and doubtful anyone else will. The xbow manufacturers are very specific in that you use their bolts with their components. So for a shop, it becomes a liability to throw together a bolt that may or may not work for your specific xbow. We won’t do it. Lastly, fletching is also specific to your bow. We’d likely have what you need but yes, there will be a line you’ll be put in. We have men fletching every day to keep our heads above water on that.

So, in my opinion. Re-order!!! For your bow!!!

                Black Eagle White Moon Nocks
Lumenock Nocks HD Orange 3pk MOON
