It has begun JD Murphey Alligator

Just got the email me and my son drew JD Murphey Alligator this year. It is a “bucket list” hunt for my son so really want him to be successful

Any tips or pointers from those with experience at JD Murphey or alligator in general. I need to start preparing

The Fishnet Store in Jonesville, La is a great place to buy your hooks & line.

We did, as well. Looking forward to it. First hunt we've ever drawn that wasn't a youth hunt. Bout dang time, but was really hoping for Pronghorn.

They changed their name a few years ago to Nets and More. Nice folks over there.

Congrats. We didn't draw. I blame you.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

This ^ Also, put the hook in your bait first (chicken quarter, beef liver, etc), then bait goes in a 5 gal bucket with lid to ripen for a couple days, hang the line tied on your hook outside the bucket and tie it on when you get there. Makes a nice aromatic bait the gators can't resist and keeps the smell off of you from having to bait the hook there. Poor the water that's in the bucket on top of the water under your bait. Bigger gator hang the bait higher above the water, at least 12 inches above the water. Listen to the staff there and ask questions. Those guys are very helpful.

Ok so a couple of questions I have so far

On my bait lines what size hook should I use and what line tied to the hook and should I run a different heavier main line? If so how long should the “leader” be

Best places to stay in the area?
                          Waders or hip boots
410 or 20 ga for dispatch

Also I have a 21 foot center console I assume will be too big and heavy to navigate most of the area other option is a 14 foot Jon boat with no motor do have a trolling motor for it and could try and pick up a 5 or ten horse. What would be best last option is to try and borrow a more suitable boat

I have a 14 foot aluminum boat with a 15 you can use I’m in Beaumont. It’s just a light weight creek boat but should do the job.
