    Is Genesis History? (Movie)

I’ve watched this a couple times now over the last year or so and loved it. I see a lot of arguments on here at times pertaining to some of the topics shown, so I thought I’d share. Genesis is my favorite chapter of the Bible.

I have an opinion that borders on heretical from a southern Baptist interpretation of the Bible.

My stance is even if you could prove that things didn’t happen exactly as they are written (7 day creation, talking snake, etc), it doesn’t mean that it’s not God’s word or what He wants us to have. Many of these concepts are so complex that our human brains can’t really understand them (God being omnipresent, the Trinity existing forever, etc). God may be “dumbing it down” to a format we can understand in the same way we simplify things to explain them to our children.

I realize that can be a slippery slope and people could use that argument to distort the rest of the Bible, but to me Genesis is distinctly different in that it reads more like folklore than a historical account.

For the record, I do believe in a literal Adam and Eve, their sin, that God created the earth, etc.

The most unbelievable thing in human history is the virgin birth, perfect life, physical death and burial, real deal back to life resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Genisis is child's play compared to that. If you want to debate reality, just point out that people cant die and then raise themselves from that death. Dont bother worrying about creation and floods and stuff.

One other point. Genisis is literally written. It's not a parable or dumbed down for us. Heck, half of the book is genealogy. Just such and such begot such and such, all the way to Christ...

The problem with compromising on genisis is that it's the foundation of the gospel of Jesus. Again, how can Matt, Mark, Luke and John be true if simple things like a 6 day creation "isnt exactly as it seems". Remember, most of genisis is simply a genealogy account. Hard to make genealogy into a parable or metaphor.

              Amen!! Preach it!

              One of my favorite verses:

"And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory." (1 Timothy 3:16)

That has been my feelings on it. The story of Jesus is more wild then the book of Genesis in my opinion.
