    1966 Ford F100 project

We picked up this truck from a fellow TBHer, thanks Curt! This is going to be my 16 year old sons first truck.
We plan to keep the paint as is for the most part, I plan to have the roof repainted after we get all the little holes filled to keep the inside sealed off and we may spray the rest of the truck with a clear to preserve the patina. He would like to redo the inside of the bed with a nice wood.
We are going to keep the engine and transmission in it for now as it has a newer 302, ‘85 and seems to be fine. We changed the starter, fixed a few dry rotted fuel lines, cleaned up the carb and had it out driving down the road yesterday. We will tune it up and service the transmission before he starts diving it daily.
I am going to up grade the front breaks to disc. We may do some new wheels but both agree that will be one of our last worries and depend on the budget by the time we get to that point.
On the interior we will recover the bench seat that’s in it and put in a new floor. We will add the door panels and put a headliner in it. We will like to put a new dash cover and maybe instrument cluster. He definitely wants a new stereo and we will probably add a few speakers in the door?
This will be an on going project and we will try to keep this post up-dated as we go through it. We are not mechanics but we do enjoy cars and the smell of gas. I know it’s going to be a lot of work but most anything worth having is work and the time together I know is something we both will look back on.
If you have questions, comments or advice please feel free to join in!

          Thank you.

We have started taking it apart to see the good and the bad. The floor pans are looking like some Swiss cheese but for the most part it seems to be in great shape for its age. We ordered new floor pans and a sheet of metal to fix the rusty spots. We pulled the original seat belts out after this picture and I will install an updated set that is a little safer for him.

I had one, same color in the 70's. Best Ford I ever had.

I can't wait to follow along on this one. I'm glad someone is finally doing what I always planned to do with that old sled. I hope you both have many great memories on this build and I know he'll never forget his first truck. Let me know if y'all need anything.

Thanks everyone for tuning in. I will try to keep it updated often.

We are waiting on some patch panels for the floor boards, come on UPS! In the mean time we are drilling the spot welds out of the bed floor and trying to figure out what we can do with the paint. I am wanting to leave the paint and “preserve” it if we can but the red paint isn’t the factory color and it is flaking off in spots so we are trying to figure out what the options are.

That is one thing I have been thinking about, I was just worried about the flaking paint causing the clear to chip off?

We had a productive day today. I will get a few more pics tomorrow but we removed the bed floor and cut out the floor pans. We pulled out the gas tank and hope to get it cleaned tomorrow. The boy managed to land his fist job this week and so he had to cut out at 3.

They make a wood bed floor kit for that trunk that looks awesome.
