Wife had to go home to work tomorrow so I sent my buddy over to the spot she's been hunting. He killed an 8 point but I can't get the pic to load.

Lol right. She actually wanted somebody to sit there, he text her to get the exact spot and all.

Weather turns tomorrow supposedly so we'll see if the patterns change. There's scrapes everywhere but haven't seen anything chasing. My big kid and I sat a new spot tonight and didn't see anything at all. Little kid was quite a ways away and had deer around him but no shot opportunities, said if I would have sat where I did yesterday there were two groups of deer that cruised right through where I would've been. I guess I'll try to get back over there tomorrow.

Man it's a beautiful day for an all day hunt with this misty fog still hanging around. If there's anything out there you'll see something. Deer are moving, big solo doe cruised by our campsite just now.

I haven't seen anything chasing yet but there's scrapes everywhere. Hunting the scrapes haven't yielded squat though. I'm gonna hunt more of a feeding area tonight and ignore the scrapes.

I'm gonna try to make at least one more trip but most of our extended trips are done now. Looks like rain tomorrow so we'll probably head home in the morning.

Took this pic yesterday, drives me nuts I see this all the time big pile of sticks from an old blind and bottles all scattered around. Why don't people pack out their empty bottles? It's easier than carrying them in, they're lighter now!

So this trip Big got his first bow kill, the doe on Monday, and Little got his first crossbow (or bow) kill tonight. Middle is here but can't hunt because the office wouldn't let me pickup his permit yesterday. He filled out and signed all the forms but this guy swears he has to sign the permit in front of him for some odd reason and of course they're closed today. I've picked up permits for a bunch of people in the past and they just signed it when they got it, same if you mail in the forms.

I need to correct this. I asked the CWD lady today when we checked in my son's buck and she said there's not been any positives since the original case a couple years ago. I'm not sure why there's conflicting info. She also said she's been working this station since beginning of November and only checked in 5 deer from Amistad but that doesn't include her days off.

Weather is nicer than expected today but a little wet, rained well all night long. We're headed home so these deer can relax a bit til next time.

Is Justletmein the Amistad "master "I have long been hearing about in other public hunting threads?

Sounds like he sure knows how to make it happen out there.

They're not fair man, really not. You still have to find the deer of course but man most of the time we always got busted would be drawing back, the sideways bows eliminate that motion. They also allow me to sit with a lower profile, last couple times I just plop down in tall grass with nothing else around. I wish they wouldn't allow them but as long as they do I don't have a problem using them. I will say this, they're loud, very loud. People will be tempted to take longer shots and that's going to end in a lot of messed up wounded deer. These deer are wild and they'll react rapidly to a crossbow string. My buddy shot his buck just over 40 yards and he went from broadside with his head up to quartering-to and took the arrow to the front of the chest. IMO 40 yards is max for these deer unless there's an airplane flying over or some sort of cover noise.

There's a spot where later in the season if the late season patterns repeat I'm planning to lay down prone in a little divot way out in the open.

Wife and I have Centerpoint CP400's, they were on sale 40% off and couldn't resist. My son has a Barnett Hyper Whitetail 410. Got a great deal on that one from Camofire also.

I talked to some guys a few weeks ago who said they were glassing from their boat and saw a pair, aside from that I haven't seen any in a couple years.

We went over to area 4 so didn't get a look at the parking lots. I heard a surface drive running back and forth all over and there was another boat in the first cove I went into but that's all I saw. San Pedro campsite has a bunch of camper van type campers in it. Quite a few boats out on the water.

Took a lunchtime sight seeing tour, no trucks in 2 or 3, one truck in each parking area for 1.

CWD lead guy said with Momma's doe that brings the talky to 42 deer from Amistad properties this year. He didn't elaborate to which areas.

43 now, and this is #9 for us, so pretty close lol. My big kid with my old Bowtech Admiral, think he's getting addicted. Frontal shot took out the aorta just above the heart. My little man isn't hunting with us this trip so I offered Big to use his crossbow, Big said some insulting things about crossbows and went out and got this one tonight.

I could have shot a doe that stopped to pee at 35 yards but she had a buck loosely following and I decided to wait. He crossed at 45 but he was walking so I didn't let it fly figuring he'd stop at the 35 yard pee spot. Doe ended up turning straight at me and got o close I was worried about getting stomped. Decided I needed to shoot her because there was no way out of this situation but as soon as I turned she made like lightning and bolted. I stepped off her tracks at 8 steps.

Wife had a doe in her spot but she passed waiting for a buck, guess doe aren't good enough for her now!

Not sure on legality but can't say I've ever seen any land in the hunt areas. I hear them flying over camp pretty often though.

Good luck brother! I didn't realize y'all were down here, gotta swing by camp some time. We slept in, headed home now.

We checked in that spike, turns out he's 2.5 years old so it was a good kill. They said one other deer came in from Area 1 today so total from the lake is up to 44.
