Bring Bobby Moseley back with you to Athabasca. I know he's been itching to get back to the cold. And speaking of itching, he's still got a score to settle with a certain motel owner.

Ale

Alex and I got inside of 300 yards on two bruisers over 30 inches. They busted us , as Alex broke a branch to get a rest.

Came off mountain and Carl and second guide picked us up. As we circled around Mountain, with less hour of daylight. We come across another heard and Carl was able to make a good 250 yard shot on his first Auodad. Both him and Alex are international hunters with a laundry list of animals across the globe. He was very exited to take his first Auodad and Javi today.

Update from Kevin today. Yesterday was rifle opener. It’s normally a “**** show” with hunters everywhere , whereas we hardly see anyone during archery in this area.

After warn smell and cold blast came in and dumped a bunch snow.

Kevin’s update today :

“He's in my garage boys. Dean (landowner ) let us drive part way up his valley and then broke a walking trail to the back field with his tractor.

We used snowshoes to get up and down the ridge. I'm not sure I would have shot one even if I saw one. We're pretty bagged, yesterday was a long grind. The amount of snow and the drifts is brutal. Didn't get back to the truck until 11 pm last night, and we didn't even pack any meat out.

We talked to a hunter at Deans this morning and he said guys are seeing elk but no one is leaving their trucks to go after them. Just us crazy *******s I guess!”

Another pic as they tried to stay warm mid day

Young man’s (Kevin’s daughters BF), first elk. Earlier in season he took his first archery mule deer buck.

Loaded up and headed back tomorrow as we move to Whitetail, though Kevin has been tempting me with elk pics, as he had been on them now for over 2 weeks, while taking a buddy out looking for a whitetail close to home.

Kevin will pick me up at airport and we will head to Athabasca to chasing rutting bucks from Tuesday - Friday!

Uneventful drive to Athabasca , until 20 minutes out when police truck three vehicles in front of us smoked a moose in the dark.

Killed the moose and looks to be a total no doubt destruction of front end of the truck. He was fortunate it didn’t lift into the windshield. After confirming officer was safe (other police showed up in less than 10 minutes ) we moved on.

Checked into hotel and now full of Boston Pizza , we are in for night and preparing for day one tomorrow.

Mild weather overall (at least for Northern Alberta this token of year as temps today as high as 32)

We had a great day 1 seeing 14 deer with 1 confirmed mature shooter (140-145 class 8 point ) we had inside 100 yards locked down on doe. I am looking for something bigger and don’t have problem eating tag soup.

Day two behind us. 10 deer, with 3 bucks but no shooters.

Colder today with snow flurries.

10 deer today with 4 bucks and 3 offered shots which we passed on.

I had another 140 class 8 point and a really young 10 point that were passed.

Cold sits today as feet still frozen. Two more days.

Another 10 deer day , but 5 bucks today. Again, nothing worth shooting.

Kevin did come across to freshly Killed does by wolfs.

Decided to hunt all day tomorrow (adding day ), then driving back late to Calgary to catch my Sunday flight as we are hedging our bets that things are about to turn loose.

Well my hunt finished with a two deer sighting day between Kevin and I.

Kevin returned alone a few days ago and scored this Alberta monster. Not huge tine lengths but super heavy mass and 25 inch outside spread made him a sure no questions asked shoot decision when he cross the cut line at 75 yards.
