Default Official 2022 Astros season thread

Let’s get it started! Should be another great season with just a few unknowns. Now that Correa is gone, can Peña be the guy? I think so, we will see. Evidently the team thinks so. Verlander coming back from Tommy John looks good so far. McCullers not yet over his injury from last year so who knows when he will be back. The rest of the team is not much different. We will be heading to spring training in a couple days for the first time. Should be lots of fun. LFG!

We lost Greinke and Correa, hopefully some of the rookies can step up and fill their space.

Been waiting on you to get this started! I have high confidence in JV returning to form and not much in Lance returning this year. Lance obviously makes the pitching staff much better but I really like the pitching staff with or without him. The offense will survive the loss of Correa I believe if Tucker continues on with what he did in the second half last year. The road to the division crown will be a bit tougher as Texas, Seattle and LAA all got better. LFG, is right!

Me too Tony!! Heck it was the only way I followed them last year!! Very good insights shared last year by many. Look forward to tryin' to keep up this year...

Question tho for you guys, Heard on the radio this morning that Frambar would be opening day starter... I'd have figured on Verlander... Y'all know why?

Verlander is still working his way back from TJ, hasn’t quite built up his pitch count, doesn’t want to stress his arm too much too early. There is an article about it on the Astros website

Thanks! I sort of thought that might be it, but I would have thought they'd have given "the old man" the start and just pulled him out early... He's sort of earned it in my book.

I went to several spring training sites in 1991 when I was in college. Saw the Astros, Rangers, White Sox, Yankees. Access to the players was unbelievable. Don Mattingly played an inning, took an at bat, and came up and sat in the bleachers with us. A young kid named Frank Thomas signed autographs and took pictures with us for as long as we wanted. And it was not crowded at all. Looks like y'all are having a similar experience. I need to do it again someday!

So the starting pitchers for the first 5 games are going to be Valdez, Ordorizzi, Verlander, Urquidi and Garcia. I hate that they are starting the season on the west coast.

Headed home today. Great trip. Observations
1. Stanek, Tucker, and Meyers were very cool and down to earth people who would talk to you like they were your friends. Like they appreciate the fans. Bregman was pretty cool too, especially when I asked him when his barbecue sauce and seasonings were coming out
2. Verlander, Luis Garcia, and Brantley, not so much
3. These guys are big. I’m 6’1”, we were both surprised how big they were when standing next to us.
4. Pena looks like the real deal
5. The ballpark is awesome

Joe Dirt himself . He was really cool. Big fan now. Hopefully he’s the 8th inning guy. Jodi loved him. His wife and baby were going on their first road trip

WOW! What a trip! Thanks for takin' us along! A trip like that will give you a whole nother perspective on who these guys really are! My only trip over there was to Jupiter and Roger Dean Stadium... NSA world series tournament that my daughter was playing in... Those ML parks are so nice!! My grandsons love watching the "Skeeters" in Sugar Land!

Went to see the skeeters last year when Bregman was rehabing... My grandsons got to meet him. He was very gracious, patient and good to them. Made my stock in him go up a notch...

I think the only reason was they wanted to completely breakaway from the Skeeters association with Independent ball.

I know that they are still under contract for the concessions from when it was a New York affiliate... at least through last season... Maybe that ended so they changed the name of the team too... dunno??
