This in theory would help bucks particularly by shortening the period of greater stress, but evidently somebody forgot to tell the bucks in east TX, at least around me, because they're still going.
i completely agree. Seen more dear in the last 2-3 days then ive seen all season. I saw atleast 30-40 deer in one of my wheat fields last night. I dont know how many bucks where in the group it was dusky but there was alot of chasing and playing going on.

So I guess this would be a tertiary rut then? I mean the first comes late October/Early November, and then again early- to mid-December, so those are well behind us now.

I guess if they get the ratios right eventually this will slow down or stop (theoretically).

Ou first rut (extremely light activity) is late Sept., second is late Oct. (major activity). Rarely we see some activity in Nov. or Dec., but it does sometimes happen. Always seems to be an uptick this time of year thru end of the month of Jan. Rut is defined as actual breeding time. What most people consider the rut (cruising and harassing) is actually pre-rut.

Out ratios are pretty closes to 1:1 to 1:1.5.

We have a batch of this years fawns coming in right now. It can happen but the bucks are grouped up tight here.

That's very thoughtful and appreciative of your young man. Making sure you had something to eat while he's away. I say congratulations!!

Noice.

I’m still trying to get my first on the ground as well this season. Not from lack of opportunity, but being picky.

I watched a young buck chasing an older fawn around today, had his nose down and was typical chasing.

He new she was dead at the shot and the enormous blood trail. I try and put the dog on all of them.

She did find the deer before us. Deer went about 60 yards and she checked up about half way thru and had a mouth full of hair. I wish she would bark instead of tearing hair off the rump

Settled into the pop up with my 12yo looking to crossbow one we call Sticker 8. He was here at 815am today and dads "alarm didn't go off" so we missed him

We'll see how it goes this evening and tomorrow morning if needed.

Good luck to you guys out there for late season....

Sticker 8

He's missing what small right brow he had now but no biggie. There are a couple other old bucks that made it through that are on the list as well but this one has been very consistently on this corn pile lately.

I ended up taking an old doe this weekend. Really didn’t want to kill a doe given my concerns about the deer population but my target bucks have been MIA for several weeks now, and I needed some more venison. We’re gonna give it two more weeks then call it a season.

Well, I thought it was going to be tag soup, but ended up not being.

Nothing to write home about, just a typical 6-7 yo dude, that hasn’t gotten any better over the last two seasons, so rent was due. I wasn’t gonna (nor, can afford to) feed him for another year.

Pulled all cameras, shut down water and secured stands even added a new one yesterday. Second year in a row we haven't killed a buck on our place. Opportunities where there last year but I think I'm the only one that saw a shooter this year

Wife asked for a pig and she got one Saturday. I didn't kill a single porker this year. Nothing to complain about there I guess but when you go from shooting 20 a season to 2 all year

Pulled sets Sunday and did a lot of scouting and snooping. Moved a feed pen another 150 yards to the center of property to put a final nail in the north neighbor coffin. He can sit and look at leaves float in the wind with his $6.95 feeder on my fence

South neighbor sold the best large property of woods in the county and new owner logged it and mulched. You can shoot marbles out there. Hundreds of acres of wood chips….

Good to know that too. I know exactly where that place is, but I'm not sure if they sell frames or not either. I'll give them a buzz.

No. If so he made a HUGE MISTAKE. He wants to be a cowboy, so he’s planting (or planning on ) improved Bermuda grasses…. I’m sure he will be hunting some of the timber he left also. Could be a dream property…. If not for the cattle

That place is also called Texas Stairs and Rails. Call 'em and ask for Luis. Tell him what you want. If he doesn't have it, he'll make it for you. I used to deal with him a lot. If he still owns it, he's a good guy!
I think it's the Hopper Rd. exit headed South on 59...

Better than development. Every time I see land being cleared now it makes me think it will be developed. Won't be any land for our grand kids and great grand kids to hunt if they keep developing.

Yesterday afternoon, I went and sat in my brother-in-law’s stand hoping to shoot a doe for one of the members on the lease who still needs meat. I didn’t see a doe, but I did see one of the biggest **** bucks I’ve ever seen out here. Unfortunately we’d previously agreed to let him walk one more year. Besides that, I didn’t want to shoot a buck that big out of someone else stand. And as if to add insult to injury, I got a picture from my Tactacam at 5:30 indicating one of my target bucks at my primary stand, who’d been MIA for a month, was out there taunting me.
