Does anyone have a connection to get some Rotella 5W-40? I had not heard this is out of stock everywhere. Was going to do an oil change this weekend, but might be a bit difficult with no oil on store shelves.

Napa has had it in spurts. Our Schaeffers rep said he's been getting a lot of new business from the Rotella shortage.

Another question. What are folks running instead of Rotella full synthetic in their diesel trucks?
I will pay for quality. |

I had an issue finding it and it is through the roof on Amazon. The manager at Oreilys said that they havent had it in months. Later that same day I ordered it on their website and got it in two days.

I finally found a 5 gallon bucket at Tractor Supply in San Angelo. I had to search up and down to find some.

There are plenty of other synthetic 5w40's that are just as good or better. Shell buys baseoils on the open market to blend most of their finished products. You're just buying a brand.

You'll likely have to find a different brand. It is in scarce supply

Went looking for blue winter blend windshield washer fluid this morning. After stopping at the 4th auto parts store, the manager said he hasn’t seen it at all this winter and the Rotella diesel oil is also in VERY short supply.

What truck/engine do you have? The only reason I ask is because in some of these engines you can run 0w40 which is availible on oreilys web site right now.

Walmart had T6 15w-40 today. I was tempted to get some to run in my wife’s 6.7l but didn’t. Guess I should have went ahead and got it since it’s slim for the 5-40

So for those needing 5w-40, I found some on advanced auto parts website. I may have ordered at least one more oil change worth, but figured I would let folks out there know it's currently available on their site.

Not sure about the Duramax or Cummins engines but a VERY reputable Powerstroke builder said that almost all of the bad 6.7 Powerstrockes he gets in his shop have some sort of spun bearing. He says that when he has asked what oil they run all of them have said 15w40 even though Ford says to use 5w40. I believe the response he gets from the owners is that 15w40 is the only thing they have ran for 30 years in all their trucks and didnt know any better. The tolerances on these engines are super tight and needs 5w40 to lubricate everything properly.
He did say that the majority of failures are from folks in colder climates that do the remote start several times while it is idling in the driveway which compounds the issue. |

I started running the tsc brand oil. It meets all the required specifications from Ford. Can get a 5 gallon bucked for about 60 bucks .

This builder specifically calls out just the 6.7 Powerstroke. He builds all the other Powerstrokes, Duramax and Cummins but didnt say a word about 15w40 in those engines so I assume the tolerances are not as tight. On the 6.7's he builds he actually increases the tolerances to avoid an issue, I have not figured out why Ford made the tolerances so tight.

I think he meant oil, but even oil has a shelf life. I'd imagine he has more than a few truck considering 200 gallons is enough for 500,000 miles assuming you can make it 7,500 on an oil change.
I am also struggling to find oil filters for my track car now too. |

Here’s a list of approved oils. Find a 5w40 (if that’s what you’re looking for) on the list from a reputable brand and you will be fine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Thats not horrible, I think when I used to catch T6 on sale I would do it myself for somewhere in the neighborhood of $80-100. Not sure what engine you have but I know it is a big deal on how that filter sits in that bowl and how the cap sits on top of it fastening it down. Apparently some of the filter manufactures make the filter a different size and it comes with a new cap which might be fine until you change the filter to a different manufacturer but reuse the same cap. From what I understand two things can happen, first is unfiltered oil can get circulated or (and I am probably not going to explain this right) that filter doesnt sit on that spring and plunger correctly and you dont get the right amount of oil flow. On my Powerstroke and Cummins I only use factory filters and just to make sure I got a new cap for my powerstroke to make sure I had the right one.

Just use a quality name brand 5w-40 full synthetic, your motor is not going to magically blow up if you don't use shell rotella.
