Fishing trip beginning of October, where to go?

We had a trip planned second weekend in October to eastern LA to kayak fish for 4 days but hurricane Ida took out where we were planning on staying. Have never fished LA, so trying to decide if we should try western LA or go to Matagorda or corpus. Just not sure how the fish kill from the freeze will affect the fishing down south. Planning on kayaks and will have access to 14 ft John boat with a 25 hp.

Recommendations on where to go/stay are welcomed.

    Thank you.

Powderhorn is great for kayaks. Plus trout under lights at night

Mid October it's hard to make the wrong choice. Sabine Lake, Texas Bayou, Keith Lake is a great kayak area. What are you after? Trout? Shallow water reds or anything swimming?

Keith lake but before surf fish for some bull reds near there, they will be making the run.

Yep, they won't pass up a half a crab that time of year.

Reds, flounder, black drum, specs, anything that bites in that order. Shallow water reds are always fun!

Indianola is hard to beat that time of year for a kayak.
