Two days before Thanksgiving In 2008, I shot a 10 point with my rifle. I vowed after that day that I was committed to shooting a buck with my bow. I’ve hunted hard since then, passed on a few, and let my son shoot others that I had a chance at killing.
Today I finally ended my quest. This buck came out at 30 yds with two other bucks and some doe. For about 10 minutes he ate some hand corn that I had spread earlier in the day. He finally turned broadside and I let my arrow fly. After about a 75 yd tracking job, I was finally able to get my hands on him.
This deer is not the biggest in the woods, but he’s special to me in many ways. This is the first buck I’ve killed at my parents farm, my first buck in the county where I grew up, and my first real archery buck. Also, just my dad and I are in camp this weekend so having him help me track it, skin it, and enjoy the moment is something I’ll never forget.
